Members Panopticon Posted December 6, 2004 Members Posted December 6, 2004 In the interest of time between now and Christmas, I am looking for an acoustic/electric guitar with the best tone, durability and look - I'm a beginner - but don't want to "waste" time buying a crappy guitar only to buy a nicer one later. So, please give your opinion on which guitars you would buy for someone who was serious about learning to play and performing - I'm a girl by the way. That does not mean I want some pink {censored}. I hate pink. I want dark blue or black. And I want the body big enough and the neck small enough for my little ass hands. Help!
Members EvilTwin Posted December 6, 2004 Members Posted December 6, 2004 Well, I would recommend Seagull (or any of LaSiDo's any other steel strings -- Norman, Art & Lutherie, Simon & Patrick), but they have pretty wide necks. Alvarez makes some great guitars, and the necks aren't as wide as Seagull. Just make sure the ones you find have a solid top. I was really impressed with the RD8M. I played a solid-top Epiphone slope shouldered dreadnought that had a pretty narrow neck...not a bad guitar.
Members jeffcoop Posted December 6, 2004 Members Posted December 6, 2004 This is going to sound like a sales pitch, because I'm selling mine (to help finance another purchase), but you might look at the Takamine EG530SC. Solid spruce top and decent electronics. I bought it as a backup to my main acoustic, a Guild D25. Guilds have fairly narrow necks, and I found the Takamine immediately comfortable, which is one of the main reasons I bought it.
Members UGB Posted December 7, 2004 Members Posted December 7, 2004 Washburns have the thinest necks out there. How are you planning on playing mostly, plugged or unplugged? If you are mostly going to use on stage, I'd suggest a thin body EA Festival series guitar. You can get a black EA17 in your price range easy. Alvarez neck profile is thicker than Washburn and Takemine is thicker than Alvarez. That said, Takemine makes a thin body A/E that sounds killer even unplugged, but you gotta whole lot of neck to grab while playing it. Washburn EA 17
Members sonrise Posted December 7, 2004 Members Posted December 7, 2004 first choice....alvarez AD60scb.....Its a standard dreadnought size with a cutaway and has a great pickup system built in... Second would be a Takamine... I agree with the above poster, to make sure that it has a solid wood top....
Members want2blikemikee Posted December 7, 2004 Members Posted December 7, 2004 I agree with above that seagull and Tak's are very nice, but the seagulls can be kinda pricey....the one's I've liked anyway. I have a couple one's that most don't like, but I love em both a lot. Fender DG-10 CEand the other isn't wired, but its a Samick Gregg Bennett model D4. The Fender took me a while to set the action right... but the Samick was sweet right from jump....
Members GSTECH Posted December 7, 2004 Members Posted December 7, 2004 The D4CE Acoustic/Electric guitars by Samick are nice. $278.99 The EDEN PLAINS
Members madog99 Posted December 9, 2004 Members Posted December 9, 2004 Check out the A&L wild cherry , cheap but good .Laminated but sounds like a much more expensive guitar .And those Alvarez sound great too.Good luck
Members madog99 Posted December 9, 2004 Members Posted December 9, 2004 Sorry forgot to mention , the A&L a/e goes for under $300 Cdn if that counts for anything .
