Members sdre Posted January 12, 2005 Members Posted January 12, 2005 i'm living in Asia, singapore to be exact. i got my guild d4, plays superbly after an expensive set up. i want to keep the guitar in good shape, and i keep it in a hardcase everytime after playing. i keep it all in the storeroom... and also by getting a humifier, what kinda setting should i put it to? the luther (who's supposedly to be the best in town) told me not to get a humifier and cause the guitar needs to breathe and all. true? but everyone else is telling me to get a humifier. thanks alot.
Members slider Posted January 12, 2005 Members Posted January 12, 2005 what's a humifier. is that like a kazoo?seriously, keeping your guitar in a case is the best thing you can do as it minimizes extremes in climate. I have a room humidifier in my house. the enviornment feels better. I dont feel dry. My plants seem happy. I can assume my instruments are fine. My expensive acoustic has a rubber like perforated rubber tube that is soaked in water, rung out, and place in the sound hole. I check it periodically, and my guitar sounds fine. no problems with anything. I would perhaps take stricter measures if I lived in a desert or under water.
Members peppy Posted January 12, 2005 Members Posted January 12, 2005 When I lived in Asia last thing we had were humidifiers....we had dessicant bags as DEhumidifiers.

You might even need dehumidifiers, either dessicant (catalythic) ones or dehumidifying appliances to keep the humidity peaks down below 55%. And it's the swings that messes your instrument up, not the humidty.
Members nylon rock Posted January 12, 2005 Members Posted January 12, 2005 Singapore is on the equator, or about as close as you can get. Very muggy. I guess you're air conditioned, right? Maybe then you have to worry a little. If I were you, I'd be more worried about getting free Singapore Slings at Raffels, somehow. Mmmmmm, they're the best. And maybe some Tiger Prawns at the Quay.
Members sdre Posted January 13, 2005 Author Members Posted January 13, 2005 hahaa.. the beer's alright, tiger beer that is. hmn, basically, i'm just afraid of anything happening to my guild. trying to be cautious here also, my store room issn't air conditioned, its pretty dank i think. but definately dry. i'm still unsure.
