Hi Guys,

Im looking for an acoustic amp, so far I have the Genz Benz Shenandoah 100W and SWC Cal Blonde. Can anyone help me which one should I get, or suggest me with a better amp?

The amp you mention is a good one. I have played it and others have told me so. Also check the Ultrasound. You will like it. The Berringer is also good and what is even better it's not so hard on the wallet. But unless you are going to play in very large clubs I don't think you need anywhere near 100 watts. 50 will handle a small venue quite well. I don't play professionally but the best amp I have is 15 watts. You might want to check into this if you new to the business. You can play downtown Dallas with 100 watts. If you need that much power get it. If not it might do your tone more harm than good when you try to play it soft.

Yeah I really need a big watt for my live concert. Because using 50W I wont hear myself especially when there are drums, electric guitar, bass, and keyboards on the same stage.

Therefore I will go for the 100W

Others input?

John Hiatt and the Eagles use the Shenandoah. Taylor guitars also recommended it for their expression pick up system.

The cover of this months Frets magazine has flatpick burner Monte Montgomery on it. The article says he's using Genz Benz.

IMO, an acoustic amp is not something I would gig with with an acoustic guitar. I go direct to the P.A. via a Baggs PADI. This allows me to color my own sound rather than asking an amp to do it for without my control. Running through an amp and then patching out to the P.A. has its own feedback problems too.

But I do own an Ultrasound 50 and it's great. Great for solo playing in the living room that is. Even a 100W acoustic amp is pretty underpowered with a full band. They're not like electric amps...more like mini P.A.s, so 100W ain't much juice.

Of late, my regular recommendation for those looking at acoustic amps is to by a nice powered P.A. speaker like the Yorkville nx550p. So much more versatile and scalable as you grow. The It will NOT color your sound nearly as much as an amp, is significantly louder and more clear (try 550W vs. 100W!) and better SPL, gets super loud for monitor and other situation, has inputs for both 1/4" and XLR and can work as a great monitor or even FOH with a matching speaker, can be used for more than just an acoustic amp..I could go on and on.

Check it out and do some searches here and in the HC Live Audio Forum, and good luck!
