Members AJWhiting Posted March 4, 2005 Members Posted March 4, 2005 So I had a new student yesterday, An older man who pulled an old Guild out of an old chipboard case. He said it has been in his attic for decades. I am very ignorant about vintage guitars and was wondering if anybody had any useful information about this. I snapped a couple of pictures, and you will have to forgive the quality because they were with my camera phone. I went to the Guild website and the serial number matched up with the 1963 numbers. It seems to be in very good condition with a few nicks, but no major cracks or faults. Any info at all would be a great help. http://www.adamwhiting.net/GuildHeadstock.jpg http://www.adamwhiting.net/Guild.jpg Thanks,Adam
Members guitarcapo Posted March 4, 2005 Members Posted March 4, 2005 Kind of a fuzzy picture but it looks to be an all mahogany OM style guitar. What Martin would call a 000-15. Sweet. I'd put it's value at around 800 dollars. But I'm no expert. How did it sound?
Members AJWhiting Posted March 4, 2005 Author Members Posted March 4, 2005 Yeah, sorry about the pictures. I wish that I could have done better. It sounded great. The only problem was that he had nylon strings on it. I think that he had tied them around the pegs and shoved them into the bridge. I am looking forward to changing the strings out and seeing how it sounds.
Members Howard Posted March 4, 2005 Members Posted March 4, 2005 if that is a mahogany top (you're right about the photos), it could be an M20 - I have a reissue from a few years back - note the different scratchplate shape.
