Members speed_12 Posted March 1, 2005 Members Posted March 1, 2005 Ive just found on Ebay a Gibson Hummingbird which is a guitar I ahve been wanting to own for a LONG time! I was planning on getting either a taylor 414ce or a takamine TNV460sc which both cost around
Members onetubetone Posted March 1, 2005 Members Posted March 1, 2005 It's definately possible to get an aftermarket pickup installed in your acoustic... most are very non-invasive. I use a K&K Trinity Western which I got installed in my Larrivee. I recommend K&K, theyre great: www.kksound.com
Members guitarcapo Posted March 1, 2005 Members Posted March 1, 2005 Yea I agree that soundboard transducer pickups are better than UST types. Another pickup you might try is a Baggs I-beam. ABout the only thing that you'll have to alter on your guitar is the jack plug where the strap peg used to be.

It's nice to have pickups that sound more natural, but don't cause as much alteration to your guitar to install. The K&K Pure Western is another good one to check out. Pick up the World is supposed to have a great acoustic guitar pickup of this type, too, but I haven't had a chance to play a guitar with one equipped.
Members kazoou Posted March 2, 2005 Members Posted March 2, 2005 I recently installed the LR Baggs Element in my D28 and it sounds pretty good to me. I have the I-Beam in another guitar and would not recommend it for straight plug and play use. It is very hard to EQ and can feed back and you will need an extra preamp to control it. The element sounded good plugged right in. The Element is also less expensive.
Members guitarcapo Posted March 2, 2005 Members Posted March 2, 2005 Yea you'll need a preamp with most soundboard transducers. I use a Baggs Para EQ. I often will also put it through a Digitech RP300 pedal and then into the PA. Sounds very natural that way.Like a guitar in front of a mike without the feedback problems. Definitely not the rubber band "sproingy" sound of USTs.
Members speed_12 Posted March 8, 2005 Author Members Posted March 8, 2005 right, i didnt get the hummingbird the first time round, but am very interested now as hes put it back on with just bidding and no reserve, it only got up to about
Members guitarcapo Posted March 10, 2005 Members Posted March 10, 2005 They seem to be dificult to install. Three little tabs you glue to the bridgeplate. Positioning is critical. And since it's crazy glue you only have one shot.
