Members Plundrik Posted March 15, 2005 Members Posted March 15, 2005 Hello! I've been reading the posts here about these exciting compisite guitars and I really want one! However, I live in Norway, so I have nowhere I can try one before i order.. The AT-6 and X-standard seem like great guitars. Have anyone tried these? The X seems like a great playing guitar, but how's the sound? Wish they had a dread size guitar with a cut.. Will there be an "x-special"? hehe Thanks for any insight!
Members guit30 Posted March 16, 2005 Members Posted March 16, 2005 Why wood (pun intended) you be excited about composite guitars, besides CA, there are also Rainsong Composites and the old standby Ovation. Don't get the excitement, sorry. You can buy them online @ www.music123.com Jim
Members JasmineTea Posted March 16, 2005 Members Posted March 16, 2005 If you mean Martin X-series, I've played a few. Probly the safest guitar to buy without playing it first. They sound pretty good.
Members king claw Posted March 16, 2005 Members Posted March 16, 2005 As a suprise gift for the holidays, my wife bought me a RainSong WS-1000. Something I was hooked on since playing one mid last year. Composite guitars do not sound like wood guitars. You will find they are very loud and have more overtones (piano like). I'm playing this guitar everyday and totally enjoying it, plugged in or not. I do recommend you try one out 1st or buy from someone with a 30-45 day return policy. A composite guitar is not for everyone, especially traditional guitarists. I should mention I also own a Taylor 314ce that's getting very little usage these days. All of my friends prefer the sound of the RainSong over the Taylor.
Members Plundrik Posted March 16, 2005 Author Members Posted March 16, 2005 Why would I be excited? With a composite guitar I can play it anywhere at any time without worrying about humidity or temperature (my old guitar is now useless because of low humidity). I can use alternate tuning without the neck beeing warped. The sound is consistent and even and not changing from day to day depending on the humidity.. As for the CA X-standard, it has a nice cutaway that expands the tonal range.. Thanks for the link to Music 123, i will check it out
Members laughingskunk Posted March 16, 2005 Members Posted March 16, 2005 Have a CA Bluegrass Performer which I love. Always stays in tune, and few worries about humidity or temp. Also has withstood dings and bumps. However the best thing about it is its great tone. As said it is very well balanced, not to bassy or bright. Makes a great all around guitar. . They are also a great company to deal with replying promptly to email.
