Members doitdoit Posted March 8, 2005 Members Posted March 8, 2005 Wow, comments about what exactly? If you are looking for people to say that they love him or hate him, I am sure you will have convincing points about both. I enjoy his music. The one comment I would like to make is this. When I was learning how to play, I was 15 trying to learn a few power chords so I could play a Nirvana song. It was easy to learn and we all can remember going to the music store for something and listening to all the kids stumble thier way through "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Here is my point, look at all the bands that wanted to be the next "Nirvana." Think about how good the next generation of guitar players will be when they have been influenced by Dave Matthews. The chord voicings, the arrangements, the wierd chords too, like having both major and minor notes in one chord. It is truly a unique sound. I look forward to what will follow him. I dont want to say that Nirvana song writing was not unique. It is special in its own way. It is just different. Dave Matthews has made me look at the Acoustic differently. I think most would agree with that. Discuss....

Discuss.... nicely played! i really like dave matthews. dave & time "live at luther college" is one of my favorite records ever. actually, my first "gig" (gig meaning party situations) was playing dave matthews covers dave & tim style with a friend of mine. dave matthews was what everyone wanted to hear at the time, and i just took to it.

Members LDF Posted March 16, 2005 Members Posted March 16, 2005 He needs to give up the solo gig and get back with his band....maybe he already did... I don't follow him very closely. Brilliant musician-songwriter though.
Members fingerpicker Posted March 16, 2005 Members Posted March 16, 2005 Oh, my mistake. I forgot I couldn't make my own thread. What would you like us to comment on? He's a good singer and songwriter who's music is very popular with 20 and 30 somethings in particular --and radio friendly. If you do a search on harmony central alone you will find over 250 threads on the guy.
Members Nicko Posted March 16, 2005 Members Posted March 16, 2005 weak lyrics, downhill since the first two band albumns. Good guitar player however.
Members mrbigisbudgood Posted March 17, 2005 Members Posted March 17, 2005 I posted about Dave in the lyricist thread today already but.... I have alot of respect for Dave as a songwriter. I think the Dave Matthews Band is incredible. I can't stand Dave Matthews as a performer.
