Members SlowFingers Posted March 17, 2005 Members Posted March 17, 2005 I will be honest and say I can not tell a whole lot of difference between the guitars. It would be hard to say this one sounds better than that. One observation from a relative newbie is that it seems like the guitars that sounded like real stars in the fingerpicking section turned out to sound a bit dirty during the strumming section. The ones that sounded the best during strumming did not have that sweet tone during the fingerpicking. The one that seemed, to my ears, to have the most balance between the two was the Breedlove Revival. Keep in mind my newbie status, though. If I were to have to choose from those recordings alone, and money were not an issue, I would go with the Revival. Nice playing, by the way.
Members JasmineTea Posted March 17, 2005 Members Posted March 17, 2005 Slowfingers, try compairing the D-60 slotthead to the OM-60.

To me, the D-60 slothead seemed to be darker in tone, where the OM-60 sounded sweet on the fingerpicking. Neither seemed to be very crisp on the strumming section at all. It almost seems like neither were built for heavy strumming. Both sounds are wonderful, depending on what you are looking for. I suppose if I take them and compare two at a time and do a tournament style elimination, then I might be able to get a better read for what I like than listening to them all consecutively and then picking one.
Members Guitar Adoptions Posted March 18, 2005 Author Members Posted March 18, 2005 My pleasure! But I would REALLY love to get a lot more feedback from more people.Comments PLEASE!
Members TaylorFishin' Posted March 18, 2005 Members Posted March 18, 2005 The Breedlove CM sure sounds like a powerful little beast! My Favorites were the Breedlove, then the Breedlove and probably then the other Breedlove. Have you had your hands on any of the OM Revival series yet?
Members Guitar Adoptions Posted March 18, 2005 Author Members Posted March 18, 2005 Not yet, but should have one soon!
Members JasmineTea Posted March 19, 2005 Members Posted March 19, 2005 I think a friendly bump once in a while is all you realy need. ..Here's a little feedback; I noticed the guitar player was a little heavey-handed on some guitars more than others.
Members knockwood Posted March 19, 2005 Members Posted March 19, 2005 This is just a fantastic idea and I've been spending an absurd amount of time listening to the same recordings over and over. Especially over the last day. Initially, I'd been listening to the recordings over some relatively crappy PA computer speakers. At first listen, the OM-03R sounded surprisingly tinny and shallow... However, prompted by a suggestion from JT, yesterday I borrowed a pair of Bang & Olufsen A8 Headphones from a friend and WHOA! What a difference! I've been trying like crazy to scrape up the scratch for a D-03R, and now my aim is complicated by equal hots for both the OM-03R and the LV-03R, both of which sound amazing in completely different ways. What a shame it's so impossible to find these models in NY! My only caution here would be that I'd suspect a lot of people out there are, like me, listening to these recordings on crappy computer speakers, and this may be doing your excellent recordings a world of injustice. If I had allowed my first listen to sum up my impression of the OM-03R, I would probably never have considered owning one. I cannot overstate how vastly different the listening experience is on excellent speakers or headphones vs. low-echelon stuff. Dave, when I am finally able to get together the dough for my first Larrivee, I cannot imagine why I'd look anywhere other than Guitar Adoptions. I dig the respect you have for these instruments! Thanks.

And a good set of headphones are definitely WAY better and more accurate than PC Speakers.I hope more folks will try that and then post their observations!
Members Jelly_belly_83 Posted March 21, 2005 Members Posted March 21, 2005 Man I'm loving that Breedlove Revival... I like larrivee's but, that Breedlove has a nice added bass to it, and seems to be good both fingerpicked and flatpicked. I guess I like "darker" sounding guitars, but I definately like clarity and clear note seperation.
Members Guitar Adoptions Posted March 21, 2005 Author Members Posted March 21, 2005 Yes, there has been a lot of positive feedback on the Breedlove Revival. One note though... Breedlove sets up their guitars with D'addario EXP's vs. Larrivee who uses Elixir strings. The Elixir strings tend to sound extremely bright, especially when they're new.
