Members Jacktheshrubber Posted March 18, 2005 Members Posted March 18, 2005 Well I've spent the last few days of spring break at a guitar store and have been trying to find my first acoustic. Im looking at the $500 to $600 range and have narrowed my tastes down to a Walden 560ce and a Taylor 110. Each guitar has its perks and its down points. Taylor has a bright sound and just that Taylor feel but the Walden is less and has a nice mellow sound and is a cutaway with electronics. They both respond equally well to flat-picking and finger style to my ears. I just wanted to know if any of you more experience players have had either one or might have advice?
Members Jacktheshrubber Posted March 18, 2005 Author Members Posted March 18, 2005 Ah yes and there's always the used Taylor 110e with that ES Blue electronic system thats hanging at my local Guitar Center for $350. Think that would be better than the other two?
Members guit30 Posted March 18, 2005 Members Posted March 18, 2005 I have never played a Walden, but have heard tons of good things about them, if you like it, get one have a good Fishman pickup system. Personally, the Taylor 110 does not do a lot for me, quality of wood seems poor, but it does have the Taylor neck.Jim PS - Stay away from the ES Blue system it is poor, are you sure you are right on that price, a Taylor 110E for $350?-there is a reason it's 350, the ES blue system stinks compared to the Fishman pickup on the Walden
Members Greg Bogoshian Posted March 19, 2005 Members Posted March 19, 2005 UGB is now a Walden dealer and I know he will set you up very well with the Walden. I just bought a D552 through him and he checks them out personally before shipping them. You won't get that service from Taylor. Taylor makes a great guitar, for sure, but I have found significant variability in their setups around here. I expect to get my D552 on Tuesday. I will post a review as I get it. Boggs
