Members PostGrungeJunky Posted March 24, 2005 Members Posted March 24, 2005 Hi I'm in the market to get a cheap acoustic, and I've settled on the Washburn D10S. What is the distinction between the D10S and the D9S featured at music123.com? Here is the link: http://www.music123.com/Washburn-D9S-i149992.music Music123.com claims: THE SOLID TOP D9S is just like the D10S, BUT ONLY BETTER. Washburn added many innovative design elements to their D10S (today's best selling acoustic guitar) and created, just for us, the dynamic D9S that is both stunning in looks and a joy to play. Created with a high gloss SOLID spruce top, it is complimented with a rich mahogany back and sides. Comes with reliable die-cast tuners and a fully bound body and neck. Includes free Washburn custom deluxe gigbag. If it's not WORSE in any way, I think I'll opt for the D9S, albeit the fact that it's less reputable, since it includes a bag, while the other D10S does not. Please note both are around 150 bucks and are B-stock very reputable online vendors.
Members UGB Posted March 24, 2005 Members Posted March 24, 2005 It's not just as good, especially when the gig bag is included. Let's put it this way, as the guys are making the D-10S', they look at the wood and if some parts, and it could be the core of the laminate that you can't see, don't pass QC for the D-10S, then it might be good enough for the D-9. The D-9 will not get the set up or dressing attention the D-10S does. That said, I'm not suggesting the D-9 is a horrible guitar, just that it would be risky at best to assume it's the same as the D-10.
Members guit30 Posted March 24, 2005 Members Posted March 24, 2005 Go with the D-10S if you have to get a Washburn, don't go with the B stock D-9, Personally, I would go with a new Alvarez AD60S,or A Blueridge BR-40Jim
Members UGB Posted March 24, 2005 Members Posted March 24, 2005 I don't know how much the Alvarez is but the Blueridge is gonna be a budget buster in this case. For

If it's not better, I'm wondering why music123.com is advertising that it's an exclusive design just for them with more "improvements." Anyways, yall convinced me on the D10S. Just curious, the D10S, is a B-stock item at zzounds.com for 150. The regular price is around 200 for a new one. Is it worth the price cut to have a little nick/blemish on there?
Members UGB Posted March 24, 2005 Members Posted March 24, 2005 1/2 of the D-10S' that get shipped to me have some kind of little headstock rash or something small, cosmetic, and completely unrelated to how the guitar plays or sounds. It should be a safe purchase.
