Members Durwood Posted March 25, 2005 Members Posted March 25, 2005 Hello there, I have two really quick questions I was hoping for some feedback on. First-- I am looking for web sites that sell strings cheep. I use Elixir Acoustic Guitar Light PolyWeb strings and the cheapest I have found them is 11.95 a set. Anyone know any place cheaper? Second-- Has anyone ever experimented with a distortion pedal on an acoustic guitar? If so what was your feelings on it...did you find anything that worked fairly decent or not?
Members LDF Posted March 25, 2005 Members Posted March 25, 2005 To answer your first question, I don't think you can find elixirs much cheaper than that. I got some on ebay (ten sets) for about 10 bucks a set which is the best price I've found yet. Luckily I'm really getting into the dean markley blue steel cryo strings which are only about $5. I can't answer your second question. What is this "effects pedal" you speak of? I only play acoustic.
Members kwakatak Posted March 25, 2005 Members Posted March 25, 2005 I can't really help with question number one, but my answer would be to find an alternative to Elixirs. I used to love using Polys until I got sick of paying up $18 for a set, so I switched to Martin SPs that cost 1/3 the price. They were a little too bright at first, but I found that I had to alter my technique to cut down on extraneous noise. OTOH, I know there are some folks out there who have found some good sites. Hopefully they'll chime in. As for question number two, I would think that any sort of boosting to the gain to cause distortion would cause an uncontrollable amount of feedback. That type of tone is best left to solid-body electric guitars IMO.
