I think I'm going to get me another acoustic in May. I'm debating on what kind to get. What is the best acoustic to get in the $700-$1000? I've been thinking about a Taylor, they're everywhere these days. I've also thinking about a Takemine,Seagull (if I can find one) Carvin. I 'll take on any advice,Do you have a favorite?

No doubt the Taylors are strong in that price range, but I agree with the above poster that the Larrivees are worth looking into(have not played one, but they get rave reviews, and sound wonderful on the clips I have heard). I love my Seagull M6, but they are actually below the price range you are looking at. Before I bought this guitar, though, I tested it against several

I love my Breedlove AC25 SR+, and it's right in that price range.

I've heard good things about Larivee too, but never tried one.

Take a look at the Breedlove Atlas series, they're definitely worth considering.

The best bet, for me, was to go used. Especially is this true if you don't have to have a perfect finish.

I bought a Martin D-18 and a Martin 000C16 for $1500 total, and probably could have spent less. Both guitars together would list for about $3800 new and with discounts usally would bring them down to $2700.

Of course, you would not get the lifetime Martin warranty.

(Note: D-18's lose their value faster on the used market than do the D-28's. The difference is in the back wood. D-28's use rosewood and D-18's use mahogony. Other forums here state that the wood on the back and sides make a minimum difference in the tone. There's only about a $200 price difference in new D-18's and D-28's.)

You know, there's a certain cachet to bringing out an obviously played guitar. Also, the wood is more aged and beginning to take on the tone.

I also bought a used Gibson J-45 for $300. But I had to do some major work on it. I'm still in process of making it right, but when I finish, think of the playing value of it.

The more I think about it,the more I'd like a acoustic without electronics,a plain jane acoustic. I haven't had one in a while,I'd like to get one again. When I bought my Epiphone, there were certin things I wanted out of it,now the same things goes for the acoustic I'm looking for. It has to be solid, built tough, able to take on medium gauge strings, X bracing(maybe) and LOUD. Some of the guitars mentioned are pretty good, some I ain't tried yet, here's some possabilties:

Martin(used,if posiable)

Blueridge

Larrivee

Guild(used,if possiable)

Alverez Yari

Garrison(I've heard good reveiws)

Tacoma

Taylor(used if possiable)

That's what I'm looking at, something in the folk, bluegrass style.

I am actually a big fan of the martin -16 series as well. Thats what I purchased when I was looking for a guitar in that price range and I liked that best. If I were to spend more I might go with a Taylor though.

Katman:

Do you want a guitar similar to what you have? Or would you like something different?

I like my dreadnought. But I want something different.

I played a Martin 000-15S once and would like to get one. I still like my Sigma DR-41, but this little 000 will fit nice on my lap, and it is so smooth sounding. It is also easy to play with a 1 and 3/4 nut for fingerstyle.

I'm looking for something totally different. The Epi is great and all but I'd like to get a regular acoiustic. The Blueridge and Alverez models are up there right now, they are suppose to have the same or similar specs as pre-war Martins, for that price and specs,it would be tough to beat.

All the guitars on this page are not quite in my price range,if I can find a used Martin for a thousand bucks I might look into it.

knock 35-40% off of those prices. That's what they typicaly sell for in the stores. I paid under $800 for a D-16GT, it's on that page.

You're 100% right about that!

I just played an AC25/SR today (not the "plus" model, because it wasn't in stock)... and I ordered the prettier AC25/SR+ right on the spot!

I played this guitar side by side with Taylors and Martins that cost over $2,000 and the Breedlove was right there when it came to matching up against the more expensive acoustics. The AC25/SR+ was absolutely incredible in every way... playability, tone, fit and finish, etc. This is a top-notch guitar at an incredibly LOW price!! :)

I strongly urge everyone to check out the Breedlove Atlas series. They're definitely the best value out there right now. Nobody even comes close for the money. Play this guitar just once and you won't say just say "wow!".... you'll be going "HOLY {censored}!"

Oh BTW, you can get one for only $680 at Zzounds or Same Day Music.

I like Larrivee guitars, light to carry, light to play and sweet sound. Not short on power either. Sadly, I've only tested various, I don't have one. Some day!!

Geez. And I thought it was just because of the mahogany. You are right and "quiet" is the word. I rescind all previous comments about mahogany until further notice.

But, a thumpick and fingernails vitalize it enough for me. A gig guitar it may not be but it is great for recording.

Hey, I've done some good recordings with cheap, quiet guitars. One with a Stella, another with a Harmony arch-top, both are made of ply. EQ is a wonderful thing.
