Members walla walla Posted April 27, 2005 Members Posted April 27, 2005 I have been playing guitar for 5 or 6 years. I am buying an acoustic guitar but im not sure what to get, i either want a taylor 710 ( i played it and loved it) or a martin d-28 or d-35(havent played them but ive heard they are great). I mostly play electric guitar. I usually play rock, such as the foo fighters and jack johnson and a little dave mathews. Which guitar should i getthanks
Members Jerry NT Posted April 27, 2005 Members Posted April 27, 2005 Doesn't Dave Matthews play a Martin? Hey, the guitars you are looking at are all considered good guitars. Different people have different preferences as far as brands. There are some cheaper brands that play very well also. You are looking at dreadnaughts which are usually what rockers choose. They are heavier on the bass end but have less definition on the mid to high notes. Auditorium models are more balanced for fingerstyle.

Members flyfis4fun Posted April 27, 2005 Members Posted April 27, 2005 To answer your question you will need to play both brands of guitars side by side. Taylor's have a brighter sound and a thinner neck. Martin have a darker sound that can be more complex with a thicker neck. Only your hands and ears will know which one is the best for you. Personally, I like my Taylors but I also have a bit of a mid range hearing loss in one ear so the brighter tone appeals to my ears better. Your ears may tell you differently. I would also suggest checking out the Breedlove Atlas series before you spend your money. This is Breedlove's import series and they are making some nice acoustics for well under a $1,000. Probably not on the level of a 700 series Taylor but they sure as heck can compete with some of the lower end models.
