I know this is a huge void for a topic, but I want to know from those of you who have played oodles of guitars.

I have been looking for a six string for a few weeks. the local shops have a limited selection.

out of all the guitars I have played though I like the Avarez-Yairi fy95, which is a concert size guitar. I played and then went to others, but I kept going back to it, it seemed to sing to me in a different way then the others ( I haven't been playing long, so that was odd to me)

I love the Guitar, but can not afford

$1600 for this guitar. I saw on ebay a guitar called a tacoma Orpheum ( not made by the Tacoma company I see on the internet) this guitar has the same wood ( spruce and rosewood ) the same demisions ( conert size ) but is only $500 with hard shell case. Haveing not heard this guitar, adn I know that every guitar sounds somewhat different, but could I expect to be close to the yairi fy95 or not. I can't find any info on the internet about them, but I called the place that has them on Ebay, and he claimed he was playing one the other day and thought it sounded as well as the Breedlove I don't know what to do, what you the experts Say??

Thanks for you patients.

Just because two guitars look the same, or have the same body type and specs does'nt mean they'll sound/play the same, heck, two identical guitars from the same company can sound worlds apart.

  • (p.s: I think this is what you meant by "concert size". If not, klick on "series" and check out the M, 1, and Road series guitars. Remember: 35-40% off listed)

I am a bit confused. Orpheum is a Tacoma brand of banjos and mandolins, not guitars. Tacoma does import a Chinese made line of instruments under the brand name of Olympia. So I really do not know about a Tacoma Orpheum GUITAR.

Anyways, the price on the Alvarez Yari is high. The list price on that guitar is $1999, so the dealer was only discounting it by 20%. I am not sure about A-Y's but I would think you can do much better over the web.

These are very nice guitars. I do not think the Orpheum, or whatever it is, will be in the league of the guitar you liked so much.

I would visit some more stores and look at 000 and OM bodied Martins, OM and L bodied Larrivees, and 214 and 314 Taylors. Don't know where you live but it is more difficult to find smaller bodied guitars than the common Dreadnaughts.

One other possibility, the Seagull Folk models. Very inexpensive and very good quality. These are Canadian made guitars from the LaSiDo company.

Thanks for you imput,

The one thing I liked best about the alvarez was the neck. it has a wide nut and that made it real easy for me to play. I was looking at the specs of the ones you sugested, and they have the 1 1116 neck. Are there any out there with a wide neck?
