Members seraphim7s Posted April 28, 2005 Members Posted April 28, 2005 1. Are there any string sets out there specifically designed for different tunings (ie. open G) which compensate for the lack of tension with a greater diameter string? 2. Are there any string sets with an unwound G string?

Very highly recommended. http://www.dwmee.34sp.com/ 2. I purchase unwound G's individually over the net. You can probably buy them from soneone in the UK but I use Just Strings in the US. http://www.juststrings.com/
Members slider Posted April 29, 2005 Members Posted April 29, 2005 strings gauges are the key to right string for open tunings. if th wrong string is use it will be over or under tensioned. an under tensioned string will not sound good and have little sustain. an over tensioned string will wreak havoc on your acoustic and will break more often.do a search on Google for the string gauge chart. I know Ive seen one. or go over to Acousic Guitar Forum or Brads Page of Steel. they both have links to that chart.ther is also a good debate going on about wound and unwound G strings....hmmm G strings.some prefer wound some prefer unwound. it depends on your tuning and taste in G strings.
