Members wartzy Posted April 20, 2005 Members Posted April 20, 2005 To all you guru's out there....I have decided to go with a Blueridge BR160 series or the Breedlove AD25....For the money, they sound like awesome guitars....can anyone add to why I might decide for one over the other....Much Appreciated!!
Members Buck62 Posted April 20, 2005 Members Posted April 20, 2005 I've never played a Blueridge guitar, but I recently bought a Breedlove AC25/SR Plus. This guitar looks, feels and sounds like it was made by God himself. I haven't seen anything out there that even comes close for the money.
Members knockwood Posted April 20, 2005 Members Posted April 20, 2005 If you have any opportunity to play either/both before buying, I'd strongly suggest doing so. If you want the electronics, I'd say go Breedlove. Otherwise - and bear in mind this is merely the personal leaning of only one guy with no physical exposure to Blueridge - I'd definitely take a look at Blueridge. You may want to take a look at the reviews for the BR-160 in HC. Solid raves. There are some spec differences as well. The Breedlove has laminate sides while the BR-160 is all solid wood, & the bracing on the BR-160 is scalloped.... If you go to the Folk of the Wood website - I do NOT recommend buying from them - you can hear several sound demos of the BR-180, which I've been told is strikingly similar to the BR-160, with the differences being largely relegated to appointments. I've played a few of the Atlas Series Breedloves and they didn't do anything for me, but these guitars are widely loved and praised by many players, including a previous poster in this thread, so I wouldn't weigh my opinion on them too heavily. I'm also terribly biased at the moment because I'm very, very close to deciding to purchase a BR-180 or BR-183 myself...

I am all for the Blueridge 160. I was guitar shopping for next month and I played Taylors and Martins, all in the $500-$750 price range, and a guy walked in one store I was in and he had a Blueridge 160,which were not at these stores. I WAS IMPRESSED!If you ever wanted a Martin D-28,but never had the money, this is your guitar. The Breedloves might be good ,I never played one,but this guitar sounded better then the $750 Martins, and it's better built.
Members black blade Posted April 20, 2005 Members Posted April 20, 2005 The Breedlove Atlas series is hit and miss.I own a AD 20/SM and it's wonderful.Very rich and warm sounding with a big bottom. For the price it's outstanding. But I had to play 3 of them before I found one I liked. Some just have setup issues. Some worse. But all in all if you find a good one they're a great value.I've heard good things about the AD25 series.
Members Macartie Posted April 20, 2005 Members Posted April 20, 2005 FYI, I'm selling a new Blueridge BG-160on eBay right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2385&item=7316699611&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
Members guit30 Posted April 21, 2005 Members Posted April 21, 2005 Blueridge Br-160This is one of the nicest guitars in that price rangs that you will ever find, nice looking too, Bone saddle and nut, sounds more like a Taylor than a Martin
Members dadgad7 Posted May 4, 2005 Members Posted May 4, 2005 My friend, go with the Breedlove. Don't know much about Blueridge guitars, so I'm not putting them down, all I can comment on is what I know, and I KNOW the Breedloves are terrific!
Members J. Posted May 4, 2005 Members Posted May 4, 2005 I've played a couple of the newer import Breedloves and to be perfectly honest I was disappointed. There was nothing wrong with them, but I had really high expectations and it was kind of a letdown. They seemed to be built well enough, but they didn't impress me any more than the other imports in that price range. Average sound, average playability. I loved the BR-160 I played though. It was in crap condition and actually had a couple cracks in the top, one of which you could slide a heavy guitar pick through without trouble. Despite this it sounded great. Lots of projection and volume yet balanced across the range. My vote is for the Blueridge.
