Members OozingBlues Posted May 7, 2005 Members Posted May 7, 2005 I am saving and after playing everything in the local shop i picked the only cedar top they had in my range because i loved the full round bass resonance. the model in the seagull s6 ct with cedar top. any other cedar or similar sounding wood tops for less than 500?
Members knockwood Posted May 7, 2005 Members Posted May 7, 2005 I think the Takamine GS330S is in that price range. I've never played one but have read some good reviews.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted May 7, 2005 Members Posted May 7, 2005 I've got a GS330s and i think it outplays the seagulls i've handled. it aint flashy, thats for sure... i've got an ibeam in mine and it plays really well. and definitely in your price range, even with a pickup and preamp thrown in.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted May 7, 2005 Members Posted May 7, 2005 i'm a takamine whore... i think every guitar suggestion i make comes down to taks or gibsons... but honestly my newest tak (AN10s) out plays my hummingbird, which granted hasn't been set up yet, the the tak just got one.
Members solitaire Posted May 7, 2005 Members Posted May 7, 2005 Then of course you got the other Godin owned brands like Simon & Patrick and that lot.
Members knockwood Posted May 8, 2005 Members Posted May 8, 2005 Played an S6 cedar top this afternoon at a local shop. Nice guitar. I'm a freak for bass, too. Very comfortable play despite the neck being wider than what I'm used to.
Members OozingBlues Posted May 8, 2005 Author Members Posted May 8, 2005 just looked at the takamine and it sounds like it has all the features i NEED but i am wondering if it comes in a cutaway model. about how much does that model run?
Members Cldplytkmn Posted May 8, 2005 Members Posted May 8, 2005 no cutaway on the gs330s, price comes in at roughly 300 USD
Members greystoke 2 Posted May 8, 2005 Members Posted May 8, 2005 I guess you mean NEW inst.s eh? Otherwise...theres some nice older Yamakis[AY's] that could fit the bill if lucky enough to find one. Greystoke:cool:
Members fatback Posted May 9, 2005 Members Posted May 9, 2005 My Norman 18 is cedar topped - but it marks very easily.
Members UGB Posted May 9, 2005 Members Posted May 9, 2005 I own 2 cedar topped guitars, a Seagull S6+ Folk and a Walden G570. The Seagull is smaller, wider neck, quieter, and great for solo playing and by that I mean by myself; it's not loud enough to play in a group of other guitars. My Walden G570 is surprisingly loud for a cedar topped guitar. It's a full Grand Auditorium body w/a lower bout a tad wider than a dread, deeper waist, and slightly thinner body. That translates into much more comfortable to hold than a dread for me, and it cuts through quite nicely in group settings.
