Are acoustic guitars ruined easily?

I apologize if I sound anal. But the other day my little cousin knocked my month old Cort Earth 200GC into my brother Ibanez AW100. It was a pretty decent knock and it caused both guitars to ring out. I checked my guitar for scratches or chips and none were found. I'm just worried that something internal could have happened like a brace getting contorted or something.

I guess I just have that "new-guitar-loveitlikeitsyouroffspring" syndrome.

Could a knock of this sort ruined the sound quality of my guitar? I think my ears are playing tricks on me.

I played the guitar after and it plays in tune.

When I was younger, I played an acoustic what had about a fist-sized hole in the body. It sounded fine.

I forget what caused the accident (this was over 20 years ago), but it held it's tune and was otherwise structurally sound.

If you can't get over your doubt, you could also stop by your local music store and ask if they have a luthier on site who can take a quick look at it. A quick look will likely not cost anything.

No way.

I've got guitars that I've accidentally smacked into door frames that haven't had any issues.

Heck, most guitars survive airline travel.

Depends on build quality and species of tonewoods used, really (and the amount of abuse, of course). Eg a maple bodied Gibby Jumbo can withstand more careless handling than a mahogany bodied and cedar topped Chinese absolute beginner level.

Guitars are not indestructable, but they are a lot tougher than they look. Just have a pro look it over to be sure if you'd like.

Good luck!

I had an older model Conn acoustic that was built like a truck,I loved that guitar, one day it fell over and snapped the headstock off,I was scared, but I took it to my luither/teck who had a knack for fixing guitars,as well as building them. Fixed it like new, codt me an arm and a leg,but you couldn't tell where the damage was done,he was that good. Man,I miss Bruce,r.i.p.
