Members OozingBlues Posted May 14, 2005 Members Posted May 14, 2005 I was thinking a simple reliable mike that could go into the PA or into the clean channel of an amp. but i dont know if this is possible what are other alternatives?
Members guit30 Posted May 15, 2005 Members Posted May 15, 2005 Shure SM-57 is a good instrument mic, but honestly, a built in pickup or soundhole pickup are easier to use
Members Cortfan Posted May 15, 2005 Members Posted May 15, 2005 Dean Markley or Seymore Duncan soundhole for less than $50. Or a SM-57 or even a 58 will work if you stand still.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted May 15, 2005 Members Posted May 15, 2005 a few weeks ago i played an open mic with my new gibson that doesn't have a pickup in it yet, and got really good results from a single SM57, really crisp, clean sounding highs and plenty of bass. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one, but if for stage use you can't move, and i wouldn't use one with a band. As for pickups, i can't with a good conscious recommend anything but the K&K Trinity Western... in case you decide to go that route. I will be buying a 57 for computer recordings real soon, i think they work great in that capacity.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted May 15, 2005 Members Posted May 15, 2005 i'm going to have to try that tioga... best position i've used is six inches from the 12th fret, angled slightly toward the soundhole... this helps eliminate the BOOM when i play my dread... other body styles probably require different approaches.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted May 15, 2005 Members Posted May 15, 2005 am i correct to assume you're dealing with a MID-LO boom? I don't have alot of experience on Jumbos, but i kinda dig their look for live performance
