i want to start a lively acoustic instrumental duo and i'm looking for song suggestions......there will be one guitarist and one bassist/guitarist

there are lots of instrumentals from the 1950's (like tequila), and the occaisional rock and roll instrumental like "sparks"by the who and "yyz" by rush...

any other suggestions??? difficult is fine but the easier the better..... no classical please

thanks

"Duelling Banjo's" (from the movie Deliverence, I've heard it played on two different guitars)

Lots of different bluegrass songs and country style "fiddle" tunes (ie. "Old Joe Clark", "Wildwood Flower", "Rocky Top".)

Simon and Garfunkel songs. There were other 60's groups that emphasized acoustic. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young for one. ("Suite: Judy Blue Eyes.") Peter and Gordon (Is that the name, I am having trouble remembering and will allow another geezer to correct me.)

Folk songs.

Gordon Lightfoot music ("Early Morning Rain" and almost all of the rest of his music) and Donovan (especially "Catch the Wind").

The duo that did "Summer Breeze" back in the late 70's early 80's.

Jim Croce music. ("Time in a Bottle" was a great acoustic piece.)

Most of these could be adapted or were meant to be played as duets. I'm sure others can mention more.

Right you are. This Geeze remembers them and, don't forget now, Chad and Jeremy - the Peter and Gordon wannabees of the same period. Damn. Hate it when I know things this dated.

Summer Breeze was by Seals and Crofts. Don't forget "I Gotta Name" - Jim Croce.

Way, way back a friend and I tried to produce instrumentals much in the same way that 2-part vocal harmonies are done. We played our own stuff because we found it easier to make that cake from scratch.

The group America did a lot of the same thing in their songs. The one that first comes to mind is Ventura Highway. They were a stead-fast acoustic group and tore up the charts because they were so "fresh sounding" at the time. A Horse With No Name would also be a good exercise in duet.
