I know what you mean. Just took delivery of my Goodall OM.

In my dreams. I agree with Tioga. I work for a guy who just bought a Denali 2 weeks ago ($55K) and he's already ho-hum with it. Before that he was all stoked on it. Then again, I'd rather have the Goodall then anything else I can think of for that price. Ah, who am I kidding, being poor sucks.

It'd take a helluva lot for me to get ho-hum with a Goodall. I've had my Guild dread for two years. When I inherited it, the top was already cracked in at least three places... Still, I love the thing. I baby it like crazy - not because I imagine it's some kind of high-end masterpiece or anything, but because it's all I have - and I don't foresee taking it for granted in this lifetime.

TM,

I get your point & agree, and it makes a lot of sense in a relative world where all good players have crappy guitars and all crappy players have good guitars - which I'll admit happens often (I read recently that acoustic guitars retailing for $300 & under account for approx. 90% of worldwide sales). Still, relativity doesn't make being a good player and owning a great guitar mutually exclusive...

Damn it, I want a suitcase full of cash.

Like I said in another thread. I intend to be cremated and placed inside my Guild when I go. I bought the thing new in 1973 for $799.00 and now couldn't replace it for anywhere near that.

So I'm at an open-mic, and a guy walks in wareing bibs, trying to look like a poor farmer. He pulls out what looks like a Martin OMC-28, he lets me check it out, FABulouse guitar, turns out he had it custom-made.

He gets up to the mic and plays what he thinks is a funney version of Old MacDonald, a beer commercial spoof, and some other incomprehensible thing. He sucks. His meter is bad, his singing is bad, his family-line has'nt had an original bone in their colective body for at least 1000 years.

But he sure had a nice guitar!

I like the idea of being placed INSIDE my guitar when I'm dead... although my cremains would make things a little dusty and probably f**k up the tone a bit. But following your thought, maybe my remains can be compressed into a kind of HPL and I can actually BE a guitar... or two... Just slap a nice spruce top on my dead ass and play me! Talk about an instrument with soul...

Oh yes indeedy.

Crazy as it sounds, I think maybe there's something to this dead dude HPL guitar idea... I don't think it's that morbid... Nutty? Sure. But kind of a neat way to stick around. I'd previously instructed my wife to have me stuffed by a taxidermist and stand me up in front of the mantel... The guitar thing might be a tad less creepy... What would you call a company that makes instruments (no reason to limit it to just guitars) out of dead folks?

Deadwood

Play Me

Six Strings Under

I kind of like that last one. Other ideas?

I think you must own up to some complicity there. That thing about being cremated and chucked into your Guild. Got me thinking...

any music-reading musicians passing by could read it and weep.

What the hell is a Yukon? DS, you say a well appointed Yukon, and I have this picture of a well dressed man or woman from the Yukon region....a Mounty with lots of medals.

...and I'll add that I did some homework, searching Google with Denali...but without success at narrowing down what it is.

I'll have an almond Denali, please.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ahem. TM and JT...your attention please.

A Denali is not something served up with your favorite latte. That would be a Biali, which is like a Bagel on steroids.

General Motors Corporation, producer of personal and commercial ground transportation vehicles, makes the Denali which is a high-end SUV. An analogy would be Martin's D-41 as compared to the rest of its product line.

An almond Daneli would realy be the {censored}, I saw a white Cadi/suv riding down the street today...Rule of thumb: the more expensive the car, the worse the driver.

This is all very confusing. First, how the hell do you get strings on that SUV? And precisely how much of an investment in cream cheese are we talking about to cover that behemoth?

Confusing indeed. Maybe you should forward this thread to GM with a C/C to Kraft Foods and Martin's string division. Personally, I think anyone who buys such a vehicle immediately becomes adequately strung up. Now, the creamcheese cost issue...could that be the insurance and lack of items covered under the vehicle warranty? You do have an indirect way of describing the nuances of buying an new car.
