Members Terry Allan Hall Posted June 3, 2005 Members Posted June 3, 2005 LET ME PLAY WITH YOUR POODLE (Tampa Red) Look-a here baby, listen to my song, don't get mad because it ain't no harm. I want to play with your poodle, can I play with your poodle? Let me play with your poodle, I mean your little poodle dog. He's the best little poodle I ever seen, and what I like about him you keeps him clean. Let me play with your poodle... Your little poodle got long black shaggy hair, look like a face like a teddy bear. But can I play with your poodle... I like the way he twists his tail, I would buy him but he ain't for sale. But let me play with your poodle... I play so soft so gentle and sweet, I would like to play with him each one day a week. Now can I play with your poodle... (You'll hopefully note that by sharing the lyrics of this fine ditty by slide-guitar wizard Tampa Red, the concept of "Acoustic Guitar" once again rises in this thread! )

Nor do I let anyone tell me I'm wrong for my choice of guitar. I could'nt care less what others think about it. I guess the reason I'm quoting you is because others have mentioned the good old days of Little Brother in a few different threads. I was'nt here then, so I would'nt know. What was it like?

I'm not looking for an argument.

No arguments from me, bro. You seem like a pretty good guy. I guess you had to be here in the day. Lil Bro was a very hands-on moderator, and he brooked no bull{censored}. When posters became uncivil, they were warned ONCE and then he took action. But you're right, there is no defense against stupidity.
Members Preacher Will Posted June 3, 2005 Members Posted June 3, 2005 i'll "+1" for the days of Littlebrother. When he was moderating, and it seemed like he was moderating 24-7 (many was the time i wondered if he had a job or slept:)), things around the 'ole forum were clean, respectable, and helpful. There was also a comradery that no longer exists. There are no more collaborative jams, no cross country jaunts, no more parties in Atlanta--and it ticks me off because i wanted to go to the next one!! His current project is a real gem and i can understand why he left, but he is missed by those of us who remember.

I do miss the days when LB was the mod and a lot of the new people here are really missing out on some good advice. Things have not been nearly as "on-topic" as they used to be and every now and then things get a little uncivil. For that reason he and many of the old regulars flew the coop. LittleBrother started up an online magazine with its own forum at www.acousticplayermagazine.com/forums. Many of those folks went over there and LB has enlisted a couple of guys (orsino and SUrrealMccoy) to help with the moderating duties. I swear the guy still doesn't sleep and he still takes the time to help people with stuff they're working on by posting honest to god instructional videos! BTW, the LB Jam is still on and set for early October I believe! There's also a video of last year's jam on the APM magazine! He also pops up at the Larrivee forum from time to time, but APM (and the Clarkesdale Guitars that he and Mike Crixell helped to design) keep him pretty busy.
Members bsman Posted June 3, 2005 Members Posted June 3, 2005 The level of discourse on HCAGF has experienced a most staggering decline from its previous
Members Khan Fused Posted June 3, 2005 Members Posted June 3, 2005 I spend some time on another forum unrelated to music, & over there a couple of heavyhanded moderators managed to run off just about every regular member. But an 'anything goes' atmosphere isn't much fun either.

Members JasmineTea Posted June 4, 2005 Members Posted June 4, 2005 I was'nt here in the old days,But I think the forum is'nt too bad if you compare it to GJ, AF, and especialy OJ. This forum does manage to stay on topic, I'm glad it does, but cracking a joke here and there should be welcome. I get the impression LB was a shepherd, and now the sheep are missing him. No offence to LB, or anyone els, but I'm darn glad I'm not a follower.
Members digitalsnipe Posted June 4, 2005 Members Posted June 4, 2005 I'm not so sure LB abandoned HC as much as I think his plans called for a smaller venue and more focus on personal projects. The Clarksdale Guitars thing is a big one and he's also transcribing and playing more. The AGM forum is small enough that he can keep his head out in front of his personal and public agendas and still comfortably have the time for his role at AGM. He, Mike, Alan and Orsino keep it all together at AGM and it really is On-Topic over there. The posters there are a pretty mature bunch just looking to keep the music going. Little discussion of GAS or other non-music making/playing can be read. That's why I was testing the waters here 'bout a month or so back about people recording and posting their stuff here on the AG forum. Just trying to raise the bar and get some new direction going with possible collaborations. You know, the music thing? The Songwriting forum is all but a twilight zone for acoustic music so I gave that up. I like the cut of the wit here and we all need to keep the levity alive. Yea, fencing and jousting will occur but I think that comes from just plain boredom with the constant wood/strings/brands/ad nauseum/on-topic issues. I realize that's what this forum is but, damn...

'snipe, I don't blame Lil Bro ONE IOTA for moving on to bigger and better things. I've got a lot of respect for Doug, he's a go-getter who MAKES things happen; would that I could be more like him. But this place has suffered seriously in his absence, no doubt about it.
Members knockwood Posted June 4, 2005 Members Posted June 4, 2005 Wasn't here in the old days, but I can tell you I am no great fan of hyper-moderation. It's generally a fantastic thing for small groups of people who agree with each other 100% of the time and don't want to suffer the discomfort of the occasional dissenting opinion or four-letter word. As things are, occasionally there are some great threads in here that engender great posts; more often there are moronic threads that court moronic posts; sometimes a thread is put out there just to make people laugh, and sometimes that works, and I cannot fathom what anyone might find wrong with that. Anyone so terribly put off by any of this is just a mouseclick away from being safe from offense... Frankly, I find it seriously disturbing that people would rather have a moderator go around zapping unorthodox posts than take the initiative themselves to simply click into another thread they may find more appealing to their interests. I'm not looking for a fight either, but I'd suggest that anyone who wants to engage in an interesting discourse should do the intellectual work necessary to START AN INTERESTING THREAD HIMSELF rather than bitch about how OT and uninteresting everyone else's posts are... And if you're not "bitching," then I guess that wasn't aimed at you. Just my $0.02.
Members kwakatak Posted June 4, 2005 Members Posted June 4, 2005 LB is a gentleman, no doubt about it. I don't think he was a heavy-handed moderator, he was just keeping us kids in line. While I don't really take offense at this whole poodle jousting thing - and I have to admit I had no idea what you guys were talking about - that's why there are other forums like Cool Jam , Guitar Jam and even Open Jam. IMO it's just a shame that there's not more acoustic discussion over there though!
Members digitalsnipe Posted June 4, 2005 Members Posted June 4, 2005 Sure. Love it or leave it. No doubt. People will post stuff just for the sake of posting and keeping the discussions going here. But, sometimes nothing is better than something but it gets posted anyway. I for one will never get my shorts in an uproar because someone dissed my gear or made some other remark aimed at or below the gear beltline. It's easy to shoot and draw retaliatory fire sitting at a keyboard so people do it and it can turn into an often silly and senseless battle of wits. Clicking the mouse and egressing is the easy way out, and human in nature, but both "sides" lose with that scenario and the forum takes on a bitter taste for everyone. Staying and resolving the issues can be a needlessly hard and lengthy discourse for both sides so those who do the shooting better be able to draw return fire or don't shoot in the first place. When you're wrong, you know it going in and "defending" your remarks fools no one thereby resolving youself to the status of Dickhead. Do I think a moderator should have to ride shotgun on Off-Topic verbal fisticuffs? I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't want to see it go in that direction but I also know that sometimes someone will roll out of the wrong side of bed looking for a fight and take it out on the keyboard. It may not be a good thing but it happens. "We never fail to fail". Now, back to my coffee and anisette toast.
