What is this?

The arrow is pointing to a worn area on the fretboard.

 

The seller says there is no name on it and doesn't know what make it is. She got it at an estate sale. I'll see if I can get some better pics.

 

To me it looks simular to a gibson pickguard. It has binding on the body, neck and headstock. It has mop rectangular or trapzed fretboard inlays. I would think a bound headstock is kinda rare as are the inlays.

 

Am I wrong to think even cheap copies have a name on the headstock.

It's a department store laminated wood model....I had a very similar one in the early 70's that had the name "Decca" on the head...I've also seen a few like these at guitar swap-meets labeled "Sekova" and "Lyle".

 

If it's more than about $35, I think I'd pass. Can you play it 1st, before buying?
