Members bchew Posted July 1, 2005 Members Posted July 1, 2005 i have a 2004 taylor 614ce. i tried replacing the batteries and now es doesn't work at all. this is not the first time i've replaced the batteries. i've tried several different sets of batteries. i'm using the supplied trs-xlr cable into a mixing board where the monitor shows no activity from the taylor. any advice would be much appreciated!
Members guit30 Posted July 2, 2005 Members Posted July 2, 2005 I think that you are going to have to go to the dealer and get it fixed, problems with the Expression system are unfortunately very common. How do you like the sound it produces?Jim
Members mielkea Posted July 2, 2005 Members Posted July 2, 2005 Yeah - My brother had his repaired twice before he unloaded on the Taylor rep. on the phone. They sent UPS to his house to pickup the guitar and totally gutted and replaced the ES system. They said it wasn't all that uncommon, and they hadn't totally got it 100% for the earlier ones. How old is yours? AM
Members Terry Allan Hall Posted July 2, 2005 Members Posted July 2, 2005 Out of the many folks I know who've bought Taylors w/ the Expression system, only two still have 'em...all the others sent them back or sold 'em for whatever they could get out of 'em and most bought new Taylors w/o electronics and had better systems installed. Much as I like Taylors, this system is proving to be their Edsel.
Members 57GLDTP Posted July 5, 2005 Members Posted July 5, 2005 It seems these ES equipt Taylors are hit or miss. I have an 04 814CE & I couldn't be happier. Mine has worked flawlessly & sounds better than anything I've used before.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted July 5, 2005 Members Posted July 5, 2005 a good friend of mine who i trade off shows with at the restaurant plays a taylor w/ ES... has always worked great and been pretty easy to dial in... he 'couldn't be happier'... well until last night when his guitar completely crapped out on him in the middle of a set. would not produce sound at all... now i KNOW that i'm not a taylor fan. period.
Members guitarcapo Posted July 5, 2005 Members Posted July 5, 2005 I didn't know there were so many problems. Here I was dying to get a Taylor just because I liked the Expression system's sound. Screw that.
Members DavyJonesLocker Posted July 8, 2005 Members Posted July 8, 2005 An overhyped and possibly overrated pickup system if you ask me. I tried it in-store when it first came out on whatever model it was installed in. To me it didn't sound any better than the scores of standard issue preamped transducer systems out there.
Members Chris26356 Posted July 8, 2005 Members Posted July 8, 2005 from my own personal experience, the ES system works fine (2005 taylor 814CE). im sure there are problems with some of the ones that are released. there are always problems. lots of people seem to "know a guy" or "know a guy who knows a guy" who had problems with it.
