Members ddlingling Posted July 21, 2005 Members Posted July 21, 2005 anyone know any good luthiers in the san diego area? specifically, for my martin hd28lsv. or, does anyone know a resource where i can look up some good luthiers? thanks.
Members 54merk Posted July 21, 2005 Members Posted July 21, 2005 http://www.mozeguitars.com/music/guitar-repair.html How about Moze Guitars? They were listed on Martin's list of repair shops so they can do warranty work. Frets.com has a slew of links to associations with listings of luthiers, but these are usually builders. You can also check Santa Cruz and Collings to see who they recommend. Neither of these companies will be recommending any slouches!
Members ddlingling Posted July 21, 2005 Author Members Posted July 21, 2005 hmm....so if a place says, for example, "We are an Authorized C.F. Martin Warranty Service Station!", they can be trusted?(i'm getting that off the website of the store i bought my guitar from www.buffalobrosguitars.com)

If they are authorized then they are simply allowed to do warranty (ie. "free") work and will be reimbursed by Martin. In the case of Buffalo Brothers they have a great reputation and I would not hesitate to use them. There are some very, very bad Martin authorized shops out there. I have personal experience with an awful one in Western CT, so reputations and recommendations are very important.

Members daklander Posted July 21, 2005 Members Posted July 21, 2005 You might see if the Violin Shop is still open and the number is still good. 619-291-5569 I also concur on Buffalo Bros. Outstanding work from all I hear.
Members leftync Posted July 24, 2005 Members Posted July 24, 2005 i've heard of a guy named bob taylor who makes guitars in your area. supposed to be pretty good.
Members ddlingling Posted July 24, 2005 Author Members Posted July 24, 2005 really? think he'll work on my martin for me?
Members acousticvoodoo Posted July 24, 2005 Members Posted July 24, 2005 The guys at Buffalo Bros don't do the work themselves, but they have a "friend" who is a fantastic luthier... can't remember his name, but they will! My brother severely injured the fretboard of his Breedlove, (it fell forward off a stand and made a 1.5 inch gash into the fretboard), and scratched and dented the top. The guy the Buffalo Bros pointed him to, put it back in shape so well that unless you KNEW where to look, you could not locate the damage repair. A really spectacular job on a guitar I initially thought was irreversably damaged. I can HIGHLY recommend this guy! michael
