I need a decent cheap acoustic for some unplugged gigs coming up, also because I hurt my shoulder a few years back I need something that is on the thinner side, I was looking at the yamaha apx series, and other ideas for a great playing acoustic thats cheaper priced - russ

I own the original APX 20, it play's like an electric.

Plus I had one stolen from my car at Westlake Audio two years ago and paid a lot to find a replacment.

I love it, used it at a Blue Bird gig last year.

That series is about which wood...the APX 5, is the entry level version, I know the APX 9, because I researched it when the 20 was ripped off.

Solid Spruce Top

Sycamore Back and Sides

Nato Neck with Rosewood Fingerboard

That means it's resonant but has good low mid projection because sycamore (and cedar) are what they use for Flamenco guitars.

Forget deep bass, it's a thinline but that is addressed on the amplification end.

The 9's play particularly well and the electronics on the new ones far exceed the glitchy types from their first series, which I have had issues with.

Get the APX 9, it's their most well made thinline.

The 5's and 7's are less not more.

FWIW

Rob

PS, you won't find the 9 at 48th street or at 14th street.

Call around.

I know that West L. A. Music stocks it but perhaps Ash will bring one in and stock it if you don't actually decide to buy it.

thanks robman, quick question, does the 9 play any better than the 5 or 7, do they have the same neck and stuff or do the 9's just sound better -

I know not Kona, but if it's good, it's good.

The 9 has more attention to detail, neck and fret dressing...

Sound as well.
