Members mchristi Posted August 3, 2005 Members Posted August 3, 2005 Hey guys, I have a Takamine EG334SBC acoustic electric, I've had it for about 2 years now. The guitar plays like a dream, great low end, and the action is almost too low! Anyway, lately I've been hearing some major fret buzz, especially when I am picking a string hard for extra emphasis. I take good care of my guitars, and was wondering if you think I need a truss rod adjustment, or some filing done. I know since the action is lower I'm probably more likely to get fret buzz, but I was wondering since this is likely a common problem, what people would suggest? If anyone has any ideas/input I'd appreciate it! Hopefully things haven't warped! Cheers!
Members DLDude Posted August 3, 2005 Members Posted August 3, 2005 Get a pro to set it up. Pros always keep them sounding nice. for instance: I put 10s on my Alvarez which has had 11s and it buzzes now. I need to take it in.

Members DLDude Posted August 3, 2005 Members Posted August 3, 2005 It's called a "Setup". At least at my shop.
Members Andrewrg Posted August 3, 2005 Members Posted August 3, 2005 Yes,get it properly set up.You probably have a combination of a too low action and a neck with not enough relief. These are the usual culprits.
Members ddlingling Posted August 3, 2005 Members Posted August 3, 2005 dont worry about sounding savvy just tell them it buzzes, and they'll know what to do. it'd also be helpful to them if you told them what string guages you use, what kind of tunings you use, and also your playing style (do you fingerpick? strum? how hard, light, medium, or heavy strumming?) a basic setup includes a lot more things than you'd expect. adjusting the action (which is waht you need) requires fine tuning of the truss rod (the metal rod that runs down the middle of your neck) as well as the calibration of the nut and saddle height for correct intonation. the luthier will also probably check your frets, to make sure that one is not higher than the rest and is causing the buzzing, or that one is not loose, and that they're all the same height, etc etc.
