D string...at the bridge...I've tried the usual pencil lead on the groove of the bridge, but it is breaking at the same place, on the little raised bit after it comes out of the peg. Its irritating me! What should I do? Cheers

That little raised bit is called a saddle.

There's too much of an edge where the string goes over the saddle, file or sand it so it's round.

Or get a new saddle.

What type of guitar are you playing? My classical does the same thing - same string - same place. I switched to medium tension strings and so far, so good. The strings don't have the sound of the heavier tension but that's the trade-off.

Just guessing here but it sounds like you might have a burr on your saddle. Try sanding it with an emery board or fine sandpaper.
