Members B. Adams Posted August 10, 2005 Members Posted August 10, 2005 I don't know for sure which one is the absolute worst, but my girlfriend's Johnson acoustic would give all the contenders a run for their money. I wish she would have known me when she bought it, so she could've asked my advice and not bought that POS. On the other hand, I think Willie Nelson wins the prize for having the worst looking guitar that I'd like to have. That's a little different though... Or maybe you were talking about that toilet seat guitar... I won't get into that though.
Members Tony Burns Posted August 10, 2005 Members Posted August 10, 2005 Well i had a Heit back in the 70's, think it came out of Brand Names ( wholesale catalog company ) - bought it used for 20 or 30 bucks - used- looked pretty, but would of given you frankenstein fingers to play it --that was a pretty crappy guitar !
Members bigmo66 Posted August 10, 2005 Members Posted August 10, 2005 Those crappy little "First Act" starter packs. Any kid introduced to the guitar that way will not only hate the instrument, but will suffer mental damage
Members Tony Burns Posted August 10, 2005 Members Posted August 10, 2005 Definitely - those first act guitars are bad- pretty much any instrument you get out of Walmart isnt worth the box it came in- Thou they look pretty, they do have an acoustic cut away with pearl trim- probably a good wal hanger !-
Members tiger roach Posted August 10, 2005 Members Posted August 10, 2005 Let's not forget the classics, like the vintage Sears electrics with the mystery knob labeled "wild dog."
Members bbarkow Posted August 10, 2005 Members Posted August 10, 2005 The first edition of the Esteban guitars from the home shopping channel. I've never played one, but you should see the reviews on Harmony Central... Black paint from the fingerboard coming off on your fingers, utterly unplayable action, complete disintegration in a matter of a few weeks..... Esteban gets my vote...for his crappy guitars, and just because I hate him with a burning, white-hot hate.
Members apprentice_bri Posted August 11, 2005 Members Posted August 11, 2005 a $9 worth acoustic guitar (new) that is being sold in our place. 3 frets sounding the same, no thrust rod, very high action, cannot ba tuned, etc...
Members strummilo Posted August 11, 2005 Members Posted August 11, 2005 How can you not love the Esteban Infomercial? With the "Celebrity Hostess" sitting there with laminated box sitting in her lap. Not a strum in sight for her! Ah yes, and Esteban with his flaming fingers of crap playing crap into a crap guitar coming out of a crap amp. My favorite HC review, "Like bitng into a sh*t sandwich". Did I mention crap? Rock on Esteban!!

Members t60 fan Posted August 11, 2005 Members Posted August 11, 2005 Well, anything with me playing it certainly deserves consideration!

One of the ladies who occ. posts here recieved the butterfly one as a "gag gift" from her boyfriend/bassist and uses it to play slide...sounds very good, too, but then she's pretty talented in her own right.
Members Tony Burns Posted August 11, 2005 Members Posted August 11, 2005 Im not so sure about all old Sears guitars, think Dan Electro made some of them, had a friend who had an old sears electric guitar with a built in amp in the case ( from when i went to college back 30 yrs plus ) was a pretty funky instrument, dont think the action was super but funky yes ! would love to find one, just to mess with it !
Members Cldplytkmn Posted August 11, 2005 Members Posted August 11, 2005 i think alot of the old department store guitars are quirky, funky, weird, and therefore NOT crappy... i wouldn't call first act guitars 'guitars'... those are toys... crappiest real guitar... probably some johnsons i've played. pawn shop specials.

Members DLDude Posted August 12, 2005 Members Posted August 12, 2005 I'll vouche for the First Act guitars. Sadly, I work at a store called Tuesday Morning (Basically a high-end BigLots), and we occasionally get in First Act acoustics and bass. Of course i always open them up and play them while working, and I have to say the Acoustics are hilariously bad. Mind you it was a Classical Acoustic, the thing didnt stay in tune for more than 1 minute. I tried everything to keep it in tune, but no beans. Poor kid who doesnt even know how to tune it. The bass wasnt THAT bad. The strings were tight, but with no amp i couldnt really tell.
Members strummilo Posted August 12, 2005 Members Posted August 12, 2005 And therein lies the point. By selling a cheap guitar as an inexpensive alternative you are just setting up some kid or newbie to a life of frustration. The results... one less musician.
Members Khan Fused Posted August 12, 2005 Members Posted August 12, 2005 My brother-in-law's Martin D28-12. Of course I tell him that it's crap just so he'll get his knickers in a twist. Guitar snobs can be so bloody humourless at times .

Too many wankers that think they're the next "thing" cranking-up some 100W Marshall and playing misc. groups of barr chords...isn't that how punk got started? LOL
Members strummilo Posted August 13, 2005 Members Posted August 13, 2005 hmmm... Taz, ya might have a point...
Members JasmineTea Posted August 13, 2005 Author Members Posted August 13, 2005 How about a proficiency test that has to be passed before you can buy a guitar? If you can't play a Cmajor scale with your eyes closed, no sale. And don't be tryin' to pull no pentatonic horsecrap in A, trying to pawn it off as C.
