Members Panoramical1 Posted August 17, 2005 Members Posted August 17, 2005 Hi,I currently own a Gibson Chet Atkins SST, but it's not amazing at recording...it sounds beautiful live, but recorded, it doesn't sound all that good. See for yourself: http://www.rctd.ft6.com/uploads/Mt%20Rushmore.mp3 So I'm looking for an acoustic sound, and I'm seeing a Taylor 312ce in my midst...is this a good guitar for recording? Or is the Chet Atkins SST fine? Thanks

Members Panoramical1 Posted August 17, 2005 Author Members Posted August 17, 2005 Yep, recording it plugged in, since it's a solidbody. But you reckon a condensor mic? Interesting, interesting. Do you think I need another recording guitar?
Members ddlingling Posted August 17, 2005 Members Posted August 17, 2005 well i dunno, i've actually never played a chet (yea yea), so i dont know how it sounds acoustically? maybe you could try it. if you go for the taylor though, a hollow body, you definitely definitely should record with a condenser mic instead of the pickup. pickups can get close, but nothing picks up the ring and the subtle nuances of an acoustic guitar like a condenser mic.
Members Panoramical1 Posted August 17, 2005 Author Members Posted August 17, 2005 Hi,Thanks for your reply. I actually own a Chet already, and I recorded with it...I was wondering if that recording I posted above (that i made with it) sounds ok?
Members DLDude Posted August 17, 2005 Members Posted August 17, 2005 A suggestion I have is to perhaps plug the guitar into an amp or PA, and record from that. You're missing the reverb and tone you get through an amp (Which could be why it sounds better live). I know when i put the Electric directly into the computer it sounds a ton worse than through the amp. Micing amps is standard with electrics.
Members Panoramical1 Posted August 18, 2005 Author Members Posted August 18, 2005 I could try running it through a Logic plugin or something, as I don't have lots of money to fork out on an acoustic amp right now (notice how I can fork out on a guitar though )
Members DLDude Posted August 18, 2005 Members Posted August 18, 2005 a POD would work i bet. Ebay often sells those for around $120
