Members Callousfingers Posted August 19, 2005 Members Posted August 19, 2005 Greetings and hopes for comments as I contemplate the purchase of a slightly smaller guitar. While I am very pleased with the quality of my S&P6 Spruce dread, it is rather large for me to play comfortably for long. I have been looking for a smaller guitar and also hope to be able to settle on something appropriate and "all purpose" for my needs: folk/OM etc size, cutaway, neck wide enough for fingerstyle playing (my hands are medium/medium-large for a lady's hands), and if a decent pickup comes onboard, all the better, otherwise I could have a pickup installed post-purchase it . I play fingerstyle mostly, but also strumming and am improving -- slowly but surely -- on my flatpicking. What I'm looking for in a guitar, needing to stay under about $800, leaves a rather narrow field. I've played the Seagull Folk Cutaway with Quantum pickup (Limited Edition in Wineburst or Blueburst, gloss top), the Alvarez MF and PF series (found them a little dull and shallow compared to the Seagull), but have no opportunity locally to try the Breedlove Atlas series. "To cutaway or not to cutaway" is still *somewhat* open to thought, though I lean toward the cutaway because occasionally the need is there, I hope the "need increases," and prefer not to have terrain hindered from my explorations. Here as well, any input or advice is appreciated, as I've never owned a cutaway and realise that while opening the terrain on the neck, it does narrow the field of choices open to me. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with these two guitars specifically (Seagull Folk CW with Quantum pickup, and Breedlove Atlas AC25-SM). I'd greatly appreciate your input. Many thanks, CF
