Or at least throw a beer bottle at it, emty, full, or half full- optional.

**************EDIT**********************

BEFORE IT GET'S OUT OF HAND: We are not here to SLAM anyONE for their choice of gear.

*Everyone should be comfortable with his/her choice

of gear regardless of what others say about it.

*Some people rely on the opinions of others (like us) for information about certain brands/features/technical info.

*This thread has no effect on the quality of that process.

If you ask a question about the truss of your Takamine, even though I do not care for the brand, I'll give you the best truss-advice I have.

**IF YOU CAN NOT TAKE A JOKE, THIS THREAD IS NOT FOR YOU.**

I don't know if you "should" slam anything, but if you want to, feel free.

It's another idiotic joke thread. Every now and then someone gets inspired to post one. It was my turn, I guess.

i wanna slam cutaways and onboard preamps... there are very few people who utilize the cutaway on their acoustic... the hordes of strummers come to mind that i knew in virginia... taylors had a cult-like following there... but i don't think they look cool at all, and its sad to cut that little portion of soundboard off...

onboard preamps... where to start... i realize the sides don't contribute much to tone, but alot of them seem so heavy...

Cutaways are for pussies.

edit: Oh yeah, and... Ovations suck...worse than Taks.

(haha...aha)

(this is in response to Cldplytkmn's post. But it's still a general slam to the above mentioned)

That's funny, I was about to make a post slamming taks and ovations, but since I already slammed ovations in a previous post I thought I should refrain from any more slanderous remarks....even if they do deserve it...

Everybody has different preferences in guitars. Some people like cutaways. Some swear by Ovations and Taks.

All guitars are different, even two of the same model. Unless you've tried them all you can't lump them all together and condemn a brand.

BTW, I have been guilty of some of the following at some time or other.

So here is my list:

People who think their choice of guitar is the only one.

And related to the one above: People who think anybody else's guitar sucks because it isn't the same as theirs.

People who think that their preferences should extend to everyone.

People who lump an entire brand of guitars together.

People who dismiss other brands of guitars based on some passing experience 10 years ago.

People who discourage others from finding out about other guitars.

Have said this before, but it reminds me of the goddamn plastic slip cover your grandparents put over the nice suede couch so it won't get messed up. So it won't get messed up, but no one will ever experience the feel of the suede, either. In short: TACKY.

-Cutaways

No objection to them if for a player who actually utilizes the newly accessible frets. Often. But for people who just think they look cool... Damn.

-Senator Rick Santorum

Nothing to do with guitars. I just don't like the son of a bitch.

-Elixirs

Here's my basic objection: they're like the goddamn plastic slip cover your grandparents put over the suede couch... You take your average set of strings, you pay maybe six bucks. For the strings. For the STRINGS. You take your average set of Elixirs, you pay maybe six bucks for the strings and another six bucks for the PROCESSING. I get the whole longevity thing. The suede couch will live longer, too. It's quality of life I'm talkin' about here. Anyone who suggests that the freakin' coating actually represents a TONAL improvement is, IMHO, out of his/her freaking mind. No, the suede couch does not look better with the slip cover on it. And don't talk to me about string noise. I LIKE string noise. Reminds me of suede against my ass.

-Senator Rick Santorum Playing a Glossy Cutaway with Elixirs

"And then the gun just kind of went off, your honor."

Nobody said that, and I'll be surprized if anyone does. Please note, I edited the opening post.

I start an idiotic thread like this so everyone can crack a joke if they want to. Loosen up, man.

Here's my peeve list:

1. Cutaways on acoustic guitars, especially dreadnoughts.

2. On board, barn-door preamps.

3. Taylor guitars.

4. The concept of the Minimum Advertised Price and the hoops that manufacturers make retailers and customers jump through.

5. Guitar Center

6. Ultra light-gauge acoustic strings

7. The price of Elixirs

Really onto something here. And do we really need stringer cleaners? If you play a lot, you need to change strings often, not try to prolong their stay ... Quality over quantity of good notes? Right on!

What I wouldn't give for my Blueridge to be a cutaway. Every time I play Lindsay Buckingham's Never Goin' Back Again off Fleetwood Mac's Rumours album I miss being able to reach the 15th fret, unencumbered. :(

Slammin' Washburn acoustics here... I've played one I liked in 30 years, and it was a cheapy. Of course, it didn't take but one time falling over for the headstock to take a flying leap away from the body. On carpet, no less...

Oh, and Gibson strings. Haven't used them in years, but in the mid-late 1990's they endorsed Opryland themepark. Musicians had access to free strings all the time and still they bought their own. Many who did try 'em ended up with a dead set right outta the package.

I don't usually slam stuff but since we've got a SLAMMIT thread here's a few.

Taylor's ES system(great guitars as long as you're unplugged)

Elixir's, or coated strings in general. They last a long time because they're already dead. JMHO

Barn door preamps

Thin picks and extra light guage strings

And last but not least I want to slam........THE SLAMMIT THREAD:) :) :)

Taylor T5s. At NAMM they had someone continously playing one out front of their room and every once in a while they would have to show how it could "Do heavy metal". Why would I buy a $2800 koa T5 to play Megadeth?

Talyor - For forcing the old Taylor forum to change their name because people voiced their opinions.

Taylor - For making some really fine guitars, making it hard to slam them realistically

I totally agree with strummilio's comment. Great idea for a thread.

My pet peeves:

Rosewood for it's metallic clink. Rosewood dreads with spruce and ebony for their irritatingly bright open chord sound.

Not ovations, had an old 70's balladeer and it wasn't that bad, really. Not enough to hate it any way. Actually, it was pretty good, I liked it.

Classical players (and others) who always play close to the bridge ... yuk !! Bright and thin, can't stand it.

Cuttaways b/c they look retarded -- as do square shouldered dreads.

Also taylors, taks and any bright acousitc. Not that they're bad, I just can't stand them (I don't deny there are some examples I think would sound great).

Overly ornate guitars -- especially puau shell everywhere. Not for me.

All guitars with thin bodies. Just can't get into them. I much prefer the Nick Lucas style with a small body but still thick.

Ebony fingerboards. Don't like the tone they add.

That's about it. Thanks for letting me get it off my chest. :)
