Members wartzy Posted August 27, 2005 Members Posted August 27, 2005 Looking for a Larrivee, but with so many models it is hard to decide what to get. I have played many of them, but need some more input. So....... If someone told you that you won 3 Larrivees that were priced under $3000.00...what models would you choose for your collection? P.S. Not looking for the most expensive....just your opinions on the best bang for the buck!!!!
Members taylorguitarman Posted August 27, 2005 Members Posted August 27, 2005 $3000/ea or combined? I already own a J-05-12, so the other two would be a P-09 and probably an L-09. I really wanted an OMV-09 before I bought my first Breedlove but I played an L-03-12 not too long ago and it felt really comfy (it sounded pretty good too but I already have my 12).
Members kwakatak Posted August 27, 2005 Members Posted August 27, 2005 It's almost like you knew that I was drooling over the latest Larriv
Members knockwood Posted August 27, 2005 Members Posted August 27, 2005 I'd buy three OM-10's, then sell them, buy a Collings OM-2H and blow the rest on hookers.
Members JasmineTea Posted August 27, 2005 Members Posted August 27, 2005 I have an OM-03R and dig the heck out it. It had a light set of Elixers on when I bought it. When I put some 12-54 uncoated strings on, it sounded great, bigger, warmer, louder. The scale is slightly longer than my Martins, however after a good set-up with close action, it's a gas. The dealer had four OM-03 models, one with mahogany b&S, one all mahogany, and two with r-wood b&s. They were all quite different.
Members guitarcapo Posted August 28, 2005 Members Posted August 28, 2005 I'd want one with J-Lo's ass in mother of pearl on the headstock
Members onetubetone Posted August 28, 2005 Members Posted August 28, 2005 One of mine would definitely have to be one of the Brazilian RW/Adirondack spruce D-60s that they are making in limited quantities. Godlike.
Members MBET Posted September 5, 2005 Members Posted September 5, 2005 I've had one since 1990. It's the L body, in Rosewood, with a cutaway. It was the model just below the presentation model but I had them add a presentation fretboard (tree of life inlay - looks killer) I love the L body shape. Nice full sound without being as boomy as a dreadnought. Between a dreadnought and an OM in characteristics. I prefer the sound of rosewood over mahogany but it's really just preference. I have an old '47 Gibson J45 in mahogany that sounds great too. It's just preference.

Members onetubetone Posted September 8, 2005 Members Posted September 8, 2005 Oh, and Dave... would it be too much to ask to perhaps get soundclips of those special edition Larrivees as you did for so many others? I'm sure others besides myself are aching to hear what they sound like!
Members Mattface Posted September 8, 2005 Members Posted September 8, 2005 I'm personally very fond of the OM-03 with mahogany top. they use very nice wood, and it has a punchy sound you don't get with a spruce top on a smaller bodied guitar. I don't know why, but I'm addicted to Mahogany top Orchestra Models

One with mahogany back/sides, one with mahogany top, two with r-wood back/sides. The all mahogany was a nice sounding guitar for sure, but one of the two Om-03R sounded the warmest of the four. I bought it and I'm happy with it. The OM-03 with mahogany back/sides and spruce top did'nt have much character imo. Have heard the same report from others. If you like punchy OM size guitars, try a Martin OM-21, it blows the Larry away.
