Members clef360 Posted September 9, 2005 Members Posted September 9, 2005 Kind of a shot in the dark, but I have a Kay model K301 acoustic guitar that I purchased from goodwill. I don't really care about the exact date, but I'd like the know when this model of guitar was made. Here are some pics.
Members Terry Allan Hall Posted September 10, 2005 Members Posted September 10, 2005 Late 60's-early 70's...this was sold through a variety of department stores, made in the Pacific rim (possibly Japan, but more than likely actually Indonesia) and is very sturdy plywood throughout. A good guitar for taking places you wouldn't dare to take a quality instrument (i.e., camping, rafting, etc). The only link this has to the Chicago-made American Kays of yesteryear is the name.
Members kwakatak Posted September 10, 2005 Members Posted September 10, 2005 Wow! It just so happens that I have one of those too but was never sure about its history. All I know is that my mom bought it in the early 1970s for $35. Thanks for the info TAH! BTW, yours is stil in awesome shape clef! Mine is absolutely beaten but I still string it up every so often.

And, yeah, that Kay sure is clean for it's age...looks like someone took really good care of it!
Members straightblues Posted September 13, 2005 Members Posted September 13, 2005 I think they started making guitars in Asia until about 69. So it is likely very late 60's or early 70's. Some of them play and sound very good. How about yours?
