Please tell me cause I really want a song that sounds good!
Members knockwood Posted September 22, 2005 Members Posted September 22, 2005 "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath. That song is a total chick magnet.
Members ExtremeRyno Posted September 22, 2005 Members Posted September 22, 2005 Actually, Iron Man does get the chicks. I played that for my ex wi...some girl...on our first date. Yes, I scored. Try playing True Love Ways by Buddy Holly.
Members allacoustic Posted September 22, 2005 Author Members Posted September 22, 2005 yeah Iron man is ok! But it just doens't hit that sweet sound! Kinda like the song Crash into me by dave matthews! That song is cool! And pretty! But I already know that and I know there is better out there! Please tell me one that is kinda like that song! Like a mellow sweet rock song or something of that nature
Members knockwood Posted September 22, 2005 Members Posted September 22, 2005 Only kidding with Iron Man, dude. Try "Miss Misery" by Elliott Smith... or "Surround Me" by Ben Taylor. Killers.
Members kwakatak Posted September 22, 2005 Members Posted September 22, 2005 "Vincent (Starry Starry Night)" by DOn McLean (as arranged for solo fingerstyle guitar by Chet Atkins). "Tears In Heaven" by Eric Clapton "Questions" by Tommy Emmanuel "La Madrugada" Jerry Reed Hubbard "The Water is Wide" arrangement by Ed Gerhard
Members ExtremeRyno Posted September 22, 2005 Members Posted September 22, 2005 Seriously: True Love Ways - Buddy Holly. Best Love Song Ever. +1
Members LDF Posted September 22, 2005 Members Posted September 22, 2005 Here comes the sun by George Harrison. Great fingerpickin' song, and very very addictive to play. ooh ooh, has anyone seen the George H. and Paul Simon duo that was done on SNL way back in the day? I downloaded it from kazaa. It's incredibly beautiful. They both do their songs together; Here comes the sun and Homeward bound.
Members guit30 Posted September 22, 2005 Members Posted September 22, 2005 "Little Martha" - The Allman Brothers
Members bringbckclinton Posted September 22, 2005 Members Posted September 22, 2005 Dude you could try "Life in Rain" by Remy Zero! Or you could learn "Time in a Bottle" by Jim Croce! Check out some Damien Rice tunes, all his stuff is great!! Also, I like "Fake Plastic Trees" and "High and Dry" both by Radiohead!!! Keep using exclamation points!! LOL!!1!!!1!

Check out Freddie's Chet Atkins page at http://freddie.spb.ru/music/instrumental/chet_atkins/. This guy has almost the entire collection posted online, albeit in low quality. Vincent is on the album "Me and My Guitar" (1977)

Members NDSP Posted September 22, 2005 Members Posted September 22, 2005 Here is the tab for Vincent by Chet Atkins.http://www.cowboylyrics.com/tabs/atkins-chet/vincent-8237.html
Members fantasticsound Posted September 22, 2005 Members Posted September 22, 2005 Thanks, JT! That's a fantastic site to hear Chet's music!
Members Herb Hunter Posted September 22, 2005 Members Posted September 22, 2005 I can play that song at a noisey party and before I'm finished everyone in the room is quiet even those that don't like classical music. It isn't hard to play. One time the at a college party, the deans wife made a pass at me after I played it even though she had completely ignored me before I played it. The best version of "The Water is Wide" that I've heard is by Mason Williams. The tablature is available from www.johnknowles.com/
Members solitaire Posted September 22, 2005 Members Posted September 22, 2005 Fields of Gold by Sting. Irish ballads. Cat Stevens' songs. Actually there are a lot of songs that, if you slow them down and dig into the nerve of the song will sound prettier than the original. Eg I fingerpick Madonna Ciccione's fast paced "Till Death Do Us Part" at about half the recorded speed and it becomes so much more sensual and present than the original. The genious of Madonna and Pat Leonard really shines in that rendition.
Members tamolina Posted September 22, 2005 Members Posted September 22, 2005 You scare me, Jasmine Tea! I had Maybelle Carter playing "Wildwood Flower" on my dvd when I happened to read your post. Now I hear the theme from the Twilight Zone running through my head... A pretty song, but I might take "Humoreque" as prettier.
Members tamolina Posted September 22, 2005 Members Posted September 22, 2005 I meant "Humoresque", of course.
Members leftync Posted September 23, 2005 Members Posted September 23, 2005 If you like Fields of Gold, check out the Eva Cassidy version. Also, Cassidy singing The Water is Wide. some others: Nick Drake, Pink Moon, Neil Young--Cowgirl in the Sand Paul Simon--An American Tune, Bookends Theme for guitar Jonathan Edwards: Sometimes Rickie Lee Jones: The Horses Sister Hazel: All for you, acoustic version James Taylor, Sweet Baby James
Members t60 fan Posted September 23, 2005 Members Posted September 23, 2005 "Dust In The Wind" Kansas (and Subaru)

Members fantasticsound Posted September 23, 2005 Members Posted September 23, 2005 All this talk about The Water Is Wide! Is this the same song James Taylor recorded on New Moon Shine? I love that song, and JT's version is intimate and sweet.
Members Herb Hunter Posted September 23, 2005 Members Posted September 23, 2005 I made the assumption that you were asking about an instrumental song. Were you asking about a vocal arrangement? If so, what is the age of "da ladys" you want to impress?
