Great Screen Name.

I'd say definitely try everything you were already thinking about trying, plus everything others have so far suggested in this thread.

I understand the natural inclination toward all solid woods, but maybe consider relaxing that particular demand when it comes to sides as this will allow the Seagull Artist series into your mix.

Larry 05 series may be a little out of your range unless you buy used, but the 03 series is great. Only difference I've been able to detect is bling.

Martin 15 series is beautiful, and so are the prices.

Mitch Hedberg...doesn't get any better.

All of the choices that you've discussed are good ones. I'm not really into the 15 martins, though tons of people are on this forum. I also didn't really like taylors that much, until I played the right one. The larrivee seems to be the best bet.

LOL, in all honesty, this thread is to get you guys to wake me up to something besides Larrivee, I am obsessed with them!!

but I promise to try others first b4 I buy. Never liked Martins that much, but I've only played like 3. I'll give the 15's a run for the money.

Definitely check out Larrivee.

I don't believe there's a better guitar for the money. At least not in your price range.

I personally don't feel the lower line Martins sound as nice or are of the same materials and workmanship as the Larrivees.

And Micarta bridge and fretboard. Sorry but that doesn't cut it for me.

Hi,

My two cents: Try an Eastman Archback Jumbo. It's a flat-top guitar with an arched back (like some Larrivees or Guilds) with all-solid woods. I love mine -- great projection/tone/playability.

Some flatpickers aren't too fond of the thinner fretboard radius, but I don't mind a bit. You could definitely get one for under $900.

www.eastmanguitars.com.

Has anyone else played/tried one of these? I'd love to hear what an "experienced" player of fine acoustics has to say.

It would be easier to recommend something if you provided a better idea of what you are looking for. I am curious, what is it that you don't like about Taylors?

It just occured to me that a better question would be to ask what brands to stay away from based on quality and support. Everyone is going to suggest their favorite brand which doesn't really help you. You should pick out one that suits you from a list of reputable brands.

The Martin 15 series does not have a Micarta bridge and fretboard.

The fretboard and bridge are rosewood and the saddle is micarta which can be replaced with bone for about $20.

It amazes me that folks have a problem with micarta as a saddle material because it's plastic or "not a natural material". But then there seems to be no problem with a tusq saddle.

I do agree that Larivees are nice guitars but whether one brand of guitar sounds nicer than the other is completely subjective.

It would be very hard to compare the tone of say a Martin D-15 with a Larivee D03 since one has a mahogany top the other has spruce. My guess is that some folks ears will gravitate to the mahogany, other will gravitate to the spruce.

In either case you will be playing a fine instrument.
