Is there something wrong with me...

Hi there,

I went to my guitar store today in an attempt to buy a nice Acoustic guitar.

So I went straight to the Taylors, by instinct. I started with the Big Baby, and moved all the way to the 914ce.

Well. What can I say? I hated all of them, except the big baby!??! It just felt so nice. I even preferred it to the 914ce, the most expensive model they had in the shop. I own a Chet Atkins SST and I preferred it to all...

Is there something wrong with me here...or do I not just like Acoustic guitars? Do Gibson Acoustics feel any better and are they generally better quality? I get the impression Taylor Guitars thrive on their name and therefore are able to charge extortionate prices for something no that good at all.

just cause one acoustic guitar does not work for you does not mean you dont like acoustic guitars. They are each so different depending on quality, craftsmanship, tonewoods, bracing etc.try as many guitars as possible in as many different wood combinations as possible.i personally feel that different woods compliment different playing styles.taylor never impressed me too much either.everyone has different taste.i am a yairi person myself.gibsons are beautiful to look at but they also did not compliment my style.i just dont sound too good on spruce tops.im more cedar, mahogony or all koa.just keep trying till you find one.i did.it took a long time but i now have 2 dream guitars

Nothing wrong with you, nothing wrong with Taylor. Maybe you're just not meant for each other. I think to an extent they thrive on name, as does every other well established manufacturer in any business. If people are willing to pay those prices, that's their call. Also, the Big Baby has a 1 & 11/16" neck (pretty close to your Chet) while most Taylors have a 1 & 3/4" neck. That can certainly impact feel. I think Taylor has some good values in their lower end series, with the 500 series capping those off. Beyond the 500 series, I just don't see the point in paying their prices.
