Members seraphim7s Posted September 26, 2005 Members Posted September 26, 2005 Am I odd? I slapped a new set of medium bronze (80-20) strings onto my acoustic after using phosphor bronzes for some time, and they just sounded far too bright for my liking - they rang out and kind of 'obscured' the quality of the chord. When they mellowed after a few hours of playing, they sounded great! Not quite so sure about the feel, but the sound is certainly better. Anyone else feel like this?
Members Herb Hunter Posted September 26, 2005 Members Posted September 26, 2005 I've found medium bronze (80-20) to be too bright so I stick with phosphor bronze on my guitars. I had a Brazilian rosewood Breedlove that sounded a bit dull until I put medium bronze (80-20) strings on it. So until I traded that guitar in for something else I used medium bronze (80-20) on it. All strings loose brightness as they age through playing.
Members solitaire Posted September 26, 2005 Members Posted September 26, 2005 Oh, I think so too, except with my new Martin SP 80/20 Cryogenics - these were spot on right out of the box. This Cryo treatment makes for rather fullsounding strings, a bit slick for some guitarists though...
Members onetubetone Posted September 26, 2005 Members Posted September 26, 2005 Yeah I think Phosphor Bronze and 80/20 Bronze strings each have a "different kind" of bright. The way I hear it, the 80/20s have more of that really high-end zing to it with less high mids, while the Phosphors have less zing and more of a full high-range. Personally I like phosphor bronze strings much better, but that's just my taste.
