Members knockwood Posted October 6, 2005 Members Posted October 6, 2005 Does it really exist? Is there one final guitar out there for any of you that would slake your GASeous lust once and for all? Is there ONE git that possesses every last element you're looking for in a guitar? For me: No. And thus I believe I am doomed to eternal GAS. How 'bout you?
Members ss454 Posted October 6, 2005 Members Posted October 6, 2005 1 Acoustic and 1 elcetric? Definatly not just one electric but I'm sure that used Breedlove at GC for $3600 would MORE than satisfy me as my only acoustic forever. I really like my Tacoma EKK19CE6 though and I don't think I could let it go...right now it's the only acoustic I have or want to have.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted October 6, 2005 Members Posted October 6, 2005 i'll start off with a little story... I started playing guitar when i was about 14 or 15, and i'd look in magazines and started seeing gibson hummingbirds and thinking- who in hell would play that crap. I got to play one though and from that point on had to have one... it was my ONE... So i come into some extra money this past summer and got it... i'm still in love with it, its my favorite guitar ever made... but... my desk is currently covered in martin literature.
Members JasmineTea Posted October 6, 2005 Members Posted October 6, 2005 Farmers approach to guitar: If it works, go plow the field with it. I'm too lazy to shop for guitars. I'd rather skip it and stay home and play the guitars I have. But I understand GAS. Get it all the time. Collings OM-1A.
Members riotshield Posted October 6, 2005 Members Posted October 6, 2005 For me it would be a Strat (HSS hardtail preferably) for electric and a Taylor dreadnaught for acoustic. IMO they're not the best sounding guitars but they're the most fun to play, so I'd never get tired of them.
Members knockwood Posted October 6, 2005 Author Members Posted October 6, 2005 Originally posted by JasmineTea Farmers approach to guitar: If it works, go plow the field with it. I grew up in the city... I love playing them. My problem is, I must admit, I've begun to love discovering them just as much... Looking for the next one... Every bit as much as I love playing them, I love the instruments themselves, their eternally varying characters and curves and textures and grains and tones and smells. The variety seems infinite, and so is my curiosity. I don't really see it as a contest of my desire to play vs. my desire to know a multitude of instruments; for me the two are hand in hand. If my passion were driving, I'm sure I'd collect cars if I could.

Members knockwood Posted October 6, 2005 Author Members Posted October 6, 2005 Someday I suppose I will get around to Yairi...
Members Andrewrg Posted October 6, 2005 Members Posted October 6, 2005 Many guitars have come and gone through my hands over the years but the two constants seem to be my Martin J40 and Les Paul Custom. These are the two I`d rescue from a burning house!Oh,and my 1916 Gibson F4 mandolin!
Members lalatingstrings Posted October 6, 2005 Members Posted October 6, 2005 i think if i could get me a yairi baritone with a cedar top the gas might end.or an alvarez av2 bari.one of the 24 made with cedar tops.oh but then there is the ani difranco sig.dont know if i can live without getting that one.ooo and a cedar topped 12 string.and i would really like to have the cy140 on ebay right now from 1973 the year i was born.GAS is such an ugly bloated feeling.it makes me feel guilty too cause i know im SOOOOO lucky to have the guitars i have.right now wy1k and cy116 is good cause if the house ever burns down i got one for each hand.BUT if i got the bari i could carry the case with my teeth.too bad there aint a gas pill.i'd take it.oh but the excitement when you bring a new baby home.i always take a camera and document the entire event.buying the yairi's is an adventure because not everyone sells them so both times i had to take a little road trip.i live in bluegrass country so it is real easy to find a martin.or a gibson.im not tatally closed to having a hummingbird or a dove as i think they are beautiful.oh god it WILL NEVER END!!!!!!!!!!gas pill PLEEEEEEZEEEEEEEEE
Members Freeman Keller Posted October 6, 2005 Members Posted October 6, 2005 Originally posted by knockwood If my passion were driving, I'm sure I'd collect cars if I could. Yea, I know. I've got a Cherokee for hauling the kayaks and skis, the Subie for groceries, the Morgan for sunny days, the Harley that my wife bought me and the old BMW 'cause it makes me smile. No difference from guitars...
Members lalatingstrings Posted October 6, 2005 Members Posted October 6, 2005 oh man if my car was stolen yeah i would be bummed to have to walk,id claim it on my insurance and get a new one,but if one of my guitars was stolen i would quite possibly be in an INSANE state of despair.take the car, leave the guitars pleeze!oh and i wipe my guitars off everytime i am done playing them and i polish them quite often.dude i aint washed my car in like 2 years.it is a pit in there.
Members lalatingstrings Posted October 6, 2005 Members Posted October 6, 2005 god thamk god my passion aint driving.quality cars are sooooooooo much more $$$$$$$$$$$$$
Members kwakatak Posted October 6, 2005 Members Posted October 6, 2005 I don't believe there is such a guitar out there for me. If so it would have to be able to handle a variety of techniques and different musical styles. I don't know of any guitar that can sound like a mahogany for one song and then rosewood for another or is sensitive enough to fingerpick yet loud enough to strum. That being the case I would say that I would probably have to have at least 2 or 3 acoustic guitars.
Members gnurph Posted October 7, 2005 Members Posted October 7, 2005 I don't have any preference about brands, but the criteria is as follows (in no particular order): comfortable neck profile, good tone, comfortable to play seated, steel strings (!!!), and in good repair. Slightly less importantly, I would prefer my next acoustic to have a cutaway, integrated electronics maybe. Oh, and decent looking (i.e. not hideous). And all that's working under the assumption that $$$ isn't too tight, and the guitar is in my $ range. Don't tell my wife, but I've kinda been eyeing an Ibanez Masa http://www.ibanez.com/guitars/guitar.asp?model=SX72TBS in particular.

Members guit30 Posted October 7, 2005 Members Posted October 7, 2005 I totally love my Alvarez, don't ant nothing elseJim
Members gnurph Posted October 8, 2005 Members Posted October 8, 2005 Oh, this is a guitar-in-general, one single guitar only, the THE ONE!! thread question? Nonesuch single for me. For acoustic, see my previous post. But for other uses, I'd need a: Gibson Les Paul Standard w/ 60's neck in a Vintage Sunburst finish for all around rocking, and that'd be my #1 to infinity. For a 'trick pony' guitar, leads and experiments, an Ibanez S470. For a bass, the cheapo Phantom 4-string P-bass that I've had for the past 8 years, it just IS my sound. That's about it. Maybe a slinky and a yo-yo. I dunno.
Members GN-Nick Posted October 8, 2005 Members Posted October 8, 2005 No. I already have a bunch of guitars that are better guitars than I am a player. It doesn't stop the GAS. It's like that saying I heard somewhere: "Show me a beautiful woman, I'll show you a guy who is tired of {censored}ing her." The GAS doesn't go away, it just moves to the next beautiful guitar.
Members lalatingstrings Posted October 10, 2005 Members Posted October 10, 2005 i just got done playing my yairi classical.i love it so much.i think it is the one.i think my GAS is officially turning into MAS.mic aquisition syndrome.MAS MAS MAS until i have more sure's,more AKG's it wont pass.i love a good mic.ooo i love a good mic.
