Members batotman Posted October 13, 2005 Members Posted October 13, 2005 Don't come in here too often but need some opinions. Took these earlier. Its a Larrivee OM-9. What do you think I can get for it?
Members Danocoustic Posted October 13, 2005 Members Posted October 13, 2005 I'll give ya tree fiddy, batman
Members Charlies Ghost Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 I think you could get some new strings for it. I'm not sure about the value. What do they go for on ebay.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 a local shop here has a D09 in mint condition, used, for a grand... i'd probably say you'll get that much, maybe a bit more? There should be plenty of reference guitars on ebay you could check out.
Members ddlingling Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 haha....that third pic of the headstock is pretty tight. batman, condition of the guitar? the pics are really high qual, but the glare from the sun is deceiving. it almost looks like the finish is worn away in some pics, but i think thats the sun? is it used? scratches? if its in decent condition, i wouldnt take anything less than a grand.
Members guit30 Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 Why do you want to sell it, beautiful except for the cheesey pickguardJim
Members Cldplytkmn Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 i happen to like the clear pickguards...
Members onetubetone Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 If it's in good condition, as it appears to be, I'd say about $1100 You should ask on the larrivee forum.
Members batotman Posted October 14, 2005 Author Members Posted October 14, 2005 Well its my step-mom's and I'm doing her a favor and researching it and likely selling it. After I brought it back in the house I realized it was dusty and dirty so the pics do look a little funky. I told her to clean it and restring it cuz it looks like {censored}....lol. It has a couple nicks, one on the top (near the bottom as you can see in the pic) and another on the headstock (near the B string tuner). I think the pickguard is a removable thin plastic one. The guitar plays well and sounds great.....especially with new strings....lol. Ebony board is hella nice. I'd make an offer on it but I don't really play acoustics much anymore. I had to ask here as prices are down on ebay and there was only one reasonably comparable one on ebay right now.
Members ksargent Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 Having sold two Larrivees in the past, including an OM-09, my guess would be $1000-$1100. $1100 if you find someone who is looking for a Canadian-made guitar (the OM-09 is now built in California). But new Larrivees are heavily discounted (sometimes as much as 50%) and the value of used ones suffers as a result. When you can get a new one for less than $1500 (I got my new OM-09 for $1200), the value of a used one is not going much over $1000. That being said, you have some things going for you: the clear pickguard (no longer standard, but preferable in my opinion - its a signature feature of Larrivees) and the fact that it was made in Canada. Assuming that it is in as good a shape as it looks, I wouldn't go under $1000. If you decide to sell, list it on the Larrivee forum - I sold both of mine there. Good luckKen
Members batotman Posted October 14, 2005 Author Members Posted October 14, 2005 The clear pickguard is a feature? Hmmm. I didn't check it closely and thought it to be one of those laminate stick ons that are removable. I think this model is a 1996.

From what I understand, the clear pickguards are not the temporary type. Most folks who've taken them off do it shortly after they buy the guitar. Even then they use a hairdryer and carefully work an edge before peeling it completely off so it's not that easy. Larriv
