Members jem7vwh Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 My friend is about to put electric strings on her acoustic because her fingers hurt playing acoustic strings. However, im afraid the neck of the guitar will warp, and will also sound like crap. Is that right?
Members guit30 Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 Just use xtra light strings 10-47, electric strings won't hurt the guitar, it will just sound bad Jim
Members kwakatak Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 +1 on lighter gauge strings. Just be warned that the tone will suffer. Martin SP Fingerstyle 80/20 lights seem to be a bit easier on my fingers. For $6 a pack it wouldn't hurt to give them a try.
Members dave251 Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 THE GUITAR NEEDS TO BE SET UP CORRECTLY. The nut is probably too high. A set of 12-52 strings are really very easy to play if the guitar is set up right. The best money she could spend is to have a GOOD tech go over the instrument.
Members onetubetone Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 With a good setup, an acoustic should play nicely no matter what strings on it. Electric strings will sound kinda crappy on an acoustic.
