Getting a Gibson Hummingbird, but I got a question...

I'm finally going to do it! It's the one guitar I've wanted since I was a little girl! (second one being a Collings, but, yeah know, ONE AT A TIME!) :D

But growing up a country girl and living on a ranch, I've always wanted to have a Gibson acoustic just to "pick at on the front porch"!

I've been on the Gibson site and it doesn't seem like they can come with electronics. Though I've always recorded and performed live with a Godin acoustic because I just thought they sounded amazing live and in the studio, I would love to use this guitar in really intimate live settings.

I've never seen one with pickups before, I've just seen musicians use a mic...does anyone have a Hummingbird with pickups?

those are always something you can add on later, they fit in the bridge and you plug them in through the jack, cost about 200 bucks to for the pickup and the installation, well worth it if you like to easily have you acoustic heard

I'm pretty sure they don't install electronics at the plant. There's no mention anywhere on the website and I've never heard of it being done. They do have a toll free number you can call. 1-800-4GIBSON. That would be the easiest way of making sure.

But in either case it might be a better idea to have it done yourself.

gibson installs electronics on a few models, so i know they're capable of doing so, if you ordered direct from the factory you may be able to get one put in. I however, would recommend as others have, you take it to a good luthier and have one put in.

Personally I'd buy one without electronics and have a pickup installed later. Get a transducer type that installs under the bridge plate like a Baggs I-Beam or K&K sound.
I especially don't like it when they cut a hole on the guitar side and add an onboard preamp/equalizer. Keep that stuff
separate from the guitar in a pedal or preamp box. Stay away from quacky piezo UST pickups too.
