Hey guys, I have an old Ovation guitar with the deep dish. I am now looking for a soundhole pickup for it. I do not really desire to spend more than $100 on it either. I was just wondering what you guys thought I should do here.

The duncan woody caught my eye...its only like $40, but I dont really want to cheap out to much either.

Thanks

Hi M90guy ...

I have used a Dean Markeley 'woody' pickup in an Alvarez 12 string for about 5 years. Usually plugged direct into the PA mixer.

Good clean sound for an acoustic venue, but can't compete with electric guitardrumsass, particularly when the aforementioned electric guitar is cranked to 11!

My solution of late, is to use a Fishman Pro pre-amp. Plug the Dean into the pre-amp, then plug the pre-amp to the mixer.

The result is a better sound control ... the pre-amp uses a 9v volt battery. Buy a 110v12v power pack ...

There are other better pickups available, but you probably have already seen them for $100 or more.

Criticisms: the provided lead is too short unless you can standsit next to the mixer; solution for me was with the pre-amp and a longer lead.

Good luck!

regards
