Looks beautiful. Even if doesn't end up being your favorite player it'll sure look nice hanging on your wall. Guitar players don't need to buy art. Some people pay that much for a poster.

What's it sound like?

Are you going to add a floating pickup?

Sound board is laminated mahogany. I suspect the back and sides are mahogany. I'm not expecting it to have much in the tone department.

From what I've been able to find on the net about seriel numbers Y='53, X='54. Dealer's not sure if it's an X or a Y. The specs differ for the top between these years. '53 is spruce, '54 is lam-hog.

Hav'nt played it. According to the dealer it feels like a medium sized LP neck. I've played a few low-end Gibson archtops, they all felt very good.

Probly sounds like a lam Gibson archtop.

Am I gonna add a floating pup? Hell no. I may buy an after market pickgaurd. Mabey a K&K pup.

If I don't like it I can send it back. The reason I'm buying it is because those low-end Gibson archtops are fun to play.

Short scale, 1-3/4 nut.

Gonna see if I can find one of

I'd never buy a lam mahogany topped guitar unless I was going to amplify it some how. Dead tone for a purely acoustic instrument.

I like your second choice though.

Well, the plan was/is to put a K&K on it. After looking around a bit more, I realized that for a few hundred more I could get an '30s L-50, all solid. I'd sleep better. Plus it looks way cooler.
