Members slistican Posted November 9, 2005 Members Posted November 9, 2005 Hi, I'm looking for an acoustic guitar. I'm looking to spend between $200-250. I want something that sounds decent. A cutaway would be prefered but if not oh well. Thanks.
Members studyscoot Posted November 9, 2005 Members Posted November 9, 2005 Breedlove Atlas Concert AC 200 Breedlove Atlas Dreadnought AD-200 Both got great reviews on the user reviews part of this website. Both also come with the Breedlove factory warranty! FYI: I'm not connected in any way to either auction

Members slistican Posted November 9, 2005 Author Members Posted November 9, 2005 I checked out the BreedLove guitars and they seems to be great guitars with an even better price.
Members studyscoot Posted November 9, 2005 Members Posted November 9, 2005 I really haven't played the atlas series much (once or twice), so I was just going off of the reviews on this site. If they sound anything like the other breedloves, 200-300 is a steal.
Members studyscoot Posted November 9, 2005 Members Posted November 9, 2005 Hopefully a Breedlove Focus will find its way into my home in the next few years!
Members Misha Posted November 9, 2005 Members Posted November 9, 2005 Hi slistican! You could get a very nice guitar with a solid top for 300-350$ not with cutaway for that price though! (except if you are very lucky!) Do yourself a favour: try lots of guitar in different stores to get one you really like even if you have to spend an extra 100$! Also, get one with a solid top! Decide if you want a dreadnought (full size guitar) or a smaller one (folk size or auditorium size, etc). Ask someone to play the guitars in front of you and listen to the sound: do you like it? Do you prefer cedar or spruce top or??? Is it comfortable for you? Do you like the shape and the neck? We all are different, don't buy a guitar because people tell you it's a good one, buy it because you like it! Some guitars look pretty good but in fact, *"the thick polyester finishes typically found in all but the most expensive guitars negates all of the potential benefit of a solid top instrument". You're better buying a plain looking guitar that sounds good instead of a cheap good looking guitar that sounds bad! Seagull, ARt & lutherie, Norman, Simon & Patrick are good, Also try a Crafter D6/N (great sounding guitar!!!), Earth 100 (Earth series), Breedlove (of course), Yamaha... Just buy the one YOU like between guitars with similar features and of comparable quality!! You might be able to find a used guitar in mint condition. Think, for example, of a beginner who quit playing after he bought a pricey instrument! It happens often! Keep an eye open on the used guitars market! Good luck chasing your guitar!!! My guitars: Seagull S6 Folk: Norman B20 Folk I've also owned this one. It's a Crafter D6/N. I highly recommend it. I sold it because I needed a smaller one because I had 2 surgeries within 16 months, in the abdomen. Very nice guitar, it sounded soooo good!!! I wish I would still have it! They are cheap... 280$ CAD brand new!
Members kdp86 Posted November 9, 2005 Members Posted November 9, 2005 I was one of those people that has been raving about Breedlove's Atlas guitars. I have just recently been able ot play a few Alvarezes, and am extremely impressed. More impressive than their all solid wood import models, and their only solid top ones. They dont sound as good, but they sound, excuse my french, really really damn good. I would say about 80-85% as good for about 1/3 to 1/2 of the price. Check them both out if you can.
Members slistican Posted November 9, 2005 Author Members Posted November 9, 2005 Alright, thanks for the suggestions. I'll probably take a trip to Guitar Center sometime this week to try some out. Too bad it's a 20 minute ride on the CTA. Thanks for your help, anymolre suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Members da mayor Posted November 10, 2005 Members Posted November 10, 2005 About GC, by all means see what you can find there, but don't rule out going to some smaller, locally owned shops as well. They might not have as wide a selection, but often they can match the GC prices, you get much better service (can't emphasize that enough), and you'll get to talk to people who really know what their doing. Plus, the guitars are often in much better shape. Do yourself favor and don't limit your search to just the big chains.
