Members droge Posted November 3, 2005 Members Posted November 3, 2005 I've had my baby EAN10C for well over 4 years--hands down, it's the best acoustic/electric I've ever owned!! Pretty remarkable, considering I used to have an Ovation Custom Legend and a Guild Jumbo JF30 12-string--it's the perfect guitar for what I'm currently doing in my acoustic duo, which is alot of fingerstyle picking--just a great guitar overall!!! :thu:
Members darkest_fugue Posted November 3, 2005 Members Posted November 3, 2005 i have a 10 year old EN10C i bought a few months off another musician...ive never come across a set up like it...the action is as low as my les paul with zero fret buzz i have it strung with 12s but they feel like 10s the tuning is rock solid and the sound unplugged or not is excellent....i also have a 1981 custom legend which i adore ... the tak can hold its own against it any day, the one thing the ovation has over the tak though are its looks...it was made back in the day when ovation werent cutting back on beautiful tops carved walnut and more abalone than you can think of...i feel like an outcast at times in this acoustic forum though because generally theres a dislike for both brands...i dont mind though id put my 2 examples up against anything they have
Members droge Posted November 3, 2005 Author Members Posted November 3, 2005 that's interesting--the bottom line for me is that is WORKS for me, I don't really care what anyone else thinks!! Besides, one of the reasons why I play one is Nancy Wilson of Heart!!!
Members apostrophe Posted November 3, 2005 Members Posted November 3, 2005 Takamines are great....regardless of what some say here. I've had my EG523SC Jumbo for a little over a year and Im STILL falling in love with it. Amazing....heres a pic of it with his brother Dot!
Members Grueller Posted November 3, 2005 Members Posted November 3, 2005 takamine rules. i've played the ean40c, and want it real bad. i also want to try the an10s or an16
Members bbarkow Posted November 3, 2005 Members Posted November 3, 2005 I like my AN-10 a lot. In fact I like it better than the twice-as-expensive Nashville Series guitars. IMHO, the Naturals Series is the best thing Takamine puts out. The Takamine website is correct when it says that the tone "jumps out" of the guitar. They're very lightly built, and the build quality is all top notch. In my experience, they can be a little trebly and nasal with the wrong strings (this is a case where elixer polywebs are very useful). All that said, I'm still gassing for a D-18V.
Members droge Posted November 3, 2005 Author Members Posted November 3, 2005 yep, the 'Natural Series' are awesome!! To think I nearly bought a Taylor 314 until I played the EAN10C. I string up my guitar w/ Elixirs light gauge srings--whatta combination!!!
Members zookie Posted November 3, 2005 Members Posted November 3, 2005 I'm a fan. I play an EG-335SC 12-string, tuned DADGAD and an ENV340SC in standard tuning.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted November 3, 2005 Members Posted November 3, 2005 takamines with elixirs... JTs gonna blow a gasket...

Two threads on the board about how to pronounce Takamine. I think a Tak with Elixers would be kinda like Kool Aid with artificial sweetener. Enjoy your Taks guys.
Members droge Posted November 4, 2005 Author Members Posted November 4, 2005 please enlighten me: what strings go well w/ the 'Natural' series??? Previously used Takamine strings (bronze-wound)
Members Cldplytkmn Posted November 4, 2005 Members Posted November 4, 2005 my AN10s loves Martin SPs, and its got a set of Newtone PBs on it now that it wishes were Med/Lights... but they sound good too... it cries when it has to take a stage with an elixir strung guitar
Members droge Posted November 4, 2005 Author Members Posted November 4, 2005 purists,eh??? Thx--I'd have to check 'em out.
Members carguy Posted November 4, 2005 Members Posted November 4, 2005 +1 for taks. I have an EG 530 SSC. Great guitar!

Previously used Takamine strings (bronze-wound) I like Adamas strings on mine. Nanowebs also sound good on it. I used Polywebs for a while until the guitar began to mellow a bit. I just put on a set of Martin SPs, but they sound a little brash to me... I'll be able to judge better when they've been on a little while.
Members guit30 Posted November 4, 2005 Members Posted November 4, 2005 i had a takemine e330s for awhile, sounded good, didn't like the body size, turned me on to adamas strings thoughjim
Members cwalsh Posted November 4, 2005 Members Posted November 4, 2005 I purchases a Tak EG540C about 5 weeks ago and not to happy. I find it very bright and tinny. Not sure if I have to let it break in or change strings. I also find there is a lot of "action" on the strings. I'm very new to playing so..any suggestions? I played a An10S next to it...what a difference! The shop where I boought it said I can swap it for a Gs330s. ..which was a nice surprise!
Members happyjack Posted November 4, 2005 Members Posted November 4, 2005 I love my Tak GS330s - nice tone and extremely playableand all for under AU$300
Members yaz75 Posted November 4, 2005 Members Posted November 4, 2005 I love the way my F-350M sounds and plays. I only paid $185 for it some time ago. Nothing special but I sure like it.
Members droge Posted November 4, 2005 Author Members Posted November 4, 2005 Well, looks like I'm not alone in my appreciation for Takamines--way cool!!!!! :thu:
Members Fade2Grey Posted November 5, 2005 Members Posted November 5, 2005 I have a AN45 SUPERnatural!! This this really is nuts. The tone is nicely balanced and plays both fingerstyle and strumming nicely. Mine's a Cedar top and rosewood back/sides btw... The strings which were really good on mine were adamas Silk&Steel's... They made the AN45 sound so smooth... Nowadays though, I use D'addarios on them. The frequent string-changing means that the D's are much cheaper. BTW, strings cost 20 bucks here compared to a big mac being 5 bucks... Anyway.... keep those Tak's coming!

Members scottiern Posted November 15, 2005 Members Posted November 15, 2005 Went to GC the other day, probably played 20 high end guitars. Numerous models of the big three(Martin, Taylor and Gibson). Hands down my fav was a natural series Tak. Better playability and sound projection. And that was unplugged. My first guitar was a old ef330 and after 20 years and playing many much more expensive guitars I am back to square one. Loved that guitar!
Members THB Posted November 15, 2005 Members Posted November 15, 2005 I can never stop singing praise for Takamine guitars. I love, love love them! My very first brand new guitar was a G330 that I had for many years. I then got a G Series 12 string, put a decent pup in it and ran a Fishman line EQ and pre amp and it sounded pretty good. For 15 years now my workhorse has been my trusty FP360SC dread - the sucker just won't quit, although I did have to replace the pre amp unit and it took some time to find an older unit. I also have an EC81 12 string that I'll put up against anthing Guild or Martin makes. I'll talk about how great Takies are all freakin' day long. And droge, where can I hear you play? I'm out in Spring Valley.
