Members dennis138 Posted October 11, 2005 Members Posted October 11, 2005 Any votes on Dylan's best song. I'd like to suggest It's alright Ma, I'm only bleeding.
Members Qengho Posted October 11, 2005 Members Posted October 11, 2005 I've always liked the surreal, eerie ones. Amongst my favorites:Desolation Row A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall Subterrranean Homesick Blues (It's Alright Ma certainly falls into that category).
Members Herb Hunter Posted October 11, 2005 Members Posted October 11, 2005 To a question like this, it is always fashionable not to answer with the more popular songs. One can more easily impress by naming an esoteric tune that never made the Top 40. Were I to be banished to a solitary island beyond the reach of radio broadcasts and it were decreed that only one song could be downloaded to the iPod I was to be issued it would be Blowing in the Wind though it wouldn't be Dylan's version. I'll be curious to see if anyone mentions Chimes of Freedom or Lay Down Your Weary Tune or All I Really Want to Do which are among my favorite Dylan songs as performed by the Byrd's.
Members dennis138 Posted October 11, 2005 Author Members Posted October 11, 2005 It's so hard to pick one. Visions of Johana, Chimes of Freedom, Hard Rain. All great songs. And I agree, most people would steer away from giving one of Dylan's more popular songs but if you like Blowing in the Wind, then you like it!

Members Musima Posted October 11, 2005 Members Posted October 11, 2005 I really think it's hard to name only a few - but classic songs that come to mind spontaneously include It ain't me babe, The times they are a'changing, Masters of war, Visions of Johanna, Just like a woman and Hurricane.. (of course, Like a rolling stone and Blowin' in the wind, and the old tambourine guy () cannot be denied of their sheer influence)
Members knockwood Posted October 11, 2005 Members Posted October 11, 2005 "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" I was blessed to see this dude in concert in Jerusalem in '88 (I think) with Tom Petty. Roger McGuinn opened. Among the better hours of my life.

It's huge. A universe distilled to a shot of liquid poetry drunk from the holy grail.

Members kwakatak Posted October 12, 2005 Members Posted October 12, 2005 "There must be some way out of here," said the joker to the thief, "There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief. Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth, None of them along the line know what any of it is worth." "No reason to get excited," the thief, he kindly spoke, "There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke. But you and I, we've been through that, and this is not our fate, So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late." All along the watchtower, princes kept the view While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too. Outside in the distance a wildcat did growl, Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl. (http://bobdylan.com/songs/watchtower.html)
