Members Johneecatt Posted November 24, 2005 Members Posted November 24, 2005 I posted here a few days back about wanting a new guitar for recording....and got lots of great replies. So I went shopping yesterday and ended up going into terrible hock - but man, what a beautiful thing. I went to McCabe's and played a LOT of wonderful guitars - many Martins and Taylors and others of all shapes and sizes and woods, but none of them really spoke to me (although some whispered). Then IT called out - this beautiful OM2 Collings. East Indian Rosewood back and sides with a German Spruce top. OOO size with a slightly deeper body - and absolutely flawless craftsmanship. Then I made the mistake of playing it....and I couldn't put it down. So balanced and so...... precise. I kept telling myself - no way could I afford it. But - I ended up finding a way, and brought it home. The real eye-opener was playing it side-by-side with my old Gibson Dread - a great sounding live guitar, but a little hard to record well. Fingerpicking, the Collings' balance is clearly superior, but a full strum told the tale. The Gibson plays a satisfying strum, although a little smeary, and very big & mushy on the bottom - while the Collings sounded like six individual notes playing together. I just know it's going to open up really well, and I can't wait to put it in front of a mic. Anyway - sorry about going on so long. But I just had to tell somebody, and you guys really helped me make the choice. Thank you. P.S. - A Very Happy Thanksgiving to all. I know I have so much to be thankful for.
