There's something about electronics on acoustics

Everytime I look at a Martin and think I'd love to have an Aura, the buttons, knobs and the plastic electronics sort of turn me off. I know real working musicans must love the convenience, but for me it cheapens the esthetic appeal of the instrument. Great guitars get better with age, electronics get "eight tracked". It seems for all the convenience I can't stop buying my guitars without on boards and then adding pickups. Anybody else feel this way?

Yeah, me too. I do have a taylor with the ES, and so far, I wish it had a B-Band, or something that I could replace at a later time. I've heard that a PA or at least a powered speaker is the way to go with the ES, so I'm withholding judgement until then.

But yes, I fully agree that the 3 inch square hole in a guitar is a sad thing.

depends on the guitar,my yairi classical has no electronics and i love it.it records wonderful with the mics. But my yairi steelstring has the electronics and i LOVE it.i always run one direct trach from the pickup in conjunction with the mics and it sounds wonderful.so three dimensional and beautiful.the yairi virtuoso line was designed to work with the electronics.i usually hated the peizeo thing till i got this guitar.it sounds wonderful, and with all the alt. tunings i use i LOVE the built in tuner.the pickup also really comes in handy at gigs.i love mics in the studio, but i have a hard time with them in live performance.

I think they're ugly too, but I really don't need them either.

It really pissed me off when I went to the store where I bought my Strat to try out some of their budget Fender acoustics. They had the AC humming away in the corner and it was really noisy in there. I wanted to try out an acoustic that happened to have elctronics installed and went to the guy at the register. Instead of turning the AC off so that it would be quiet enough to hear the unplugged tone of the guitar, he just PLUGGED the acoustic in for me and gave me a pair of headphones to plug into the amp!

Absolutely! There are no knobs on any of my "plugged-in" acoustic instruments, I just change the volume and tone by where and how hard I hit the strings...they ARE acoustics, after all! ;)

yeah, there's nothing like a beautiful acoustic instrument. I've got a limited edition Taylor XXV-GA Anniversary Model (#26 of 500) that just blows me away everytime I play it! Pure and simple. No electronics, knobs or buttons. I love it!

But just like cravings for different food, sometimes I yearn to play something else... So I have a Taylor T5 Custom Maple and it is beautiful and a joy to play as well. Sound? Spectacular! An awesome instrument. Bottom line, variety is the spice of life! :)

I've been watching these Martins with the Premium electronics drop in price because the Auras are coming out. At the same time the uncut versions of the electrics have had a price jump. I'm just saying.......
