Members kwakatak Posted December 13, 2005 Members Posted December 13, 2005 I think I've burnt out my second humidifier in as many years. I have a Sunbeam Cool Mist room humidifer with the one gallon blue tank that looks like an old Apple iMac. I think either the probe (that little wire thingie) is corroded from using tap water or some water splashed into the electronic innards. Is there a way to repair this cheaply or should I just get another room humidifer? If I do need another, could anybody recommend me a different model that's easier to clean/refill?
Members JasmineTea Posted December 13, 2005 Members Posted December 13, 2005 I run two of these. It's a Kenmore, warm mist, no model number that I can see. I can't seem to find them on line. Not real messy. Nice and quiet. If you run it on high, you'll have to fill it about twice a day. I think I paid $40 a piece.

Yeah, exact same thing happened to me about 4 months ago. I think it was the same model as well. The tank did look a lot like an Apple computer. No, I never got it to work again after it stopped. It still hums when I turn it on, but it doesn't create the mist it used to. I've tried just about everything and I ended up replacing it with a warm mist one. Check them out, they work a lot better, and they don't make the guitar room look all foggy. I would have done the warm mist one from the beginning, but its just too damn hot in phoenix to add warm humidity during the summer!
Members Qengho Posted December 13, 2005 Members Posted December 13, 2005 I've had an inexpensive Honeywell warm-mist humidifer for the past three years and it works fine. Fairly accurate built-in hygrometer, easy to refill, not too big a pain to clean (no filter, just have to remove scale). During a typical No. VA winter I have to refill it a couple of times a day and clean it once a week. If it ever dies, I'll probably replace it with the version that has two tanks.
Members Phishmonkey Posted December 14, 2005 Members Posted December 14, 2005 I'm new to this. Should I get warm or cool mist?

Should I get warm or cool mist? in new york, I bet you could get away with just a soundhole humidifier like a kyser or dampit. Keep the guitar in its case. If you want to keep it out, get a room humidifier. I would reccommend a warm-mist one. The downside is how muggy it gets in the room during the summer if you humidify the room. Close the heat vents to the room either way.
